Position Summary The HVAC Chiller Service Technician – Traveling is a remote based opportunity that will specialize primarily in the start-up and commissioning process for a variety of chiller technologies. This role focuses on equipment start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing service for commercial and industrial HVAC systems. The ideal candidate will ensure that installed systems perform as designed, operate efficiently, and meet client expectations for comfort and reliability. The candidate must be able to independently troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems, be dependable, and have good customer service skills. This role would serve our customers across the nation, requiring approximately 80% travel, however we want to ensure we workout a diligent schedule with each Technician. This position requires between five and fifteen percent travel, primarily within the greater Portland area. Travel may include overnight stays. All business travel expenses are reimbursed in accordance with company policy. Key Responsibilities - Perform equipment start-up and commissioning of newly installed HVAC systems, including verifying proper operation and settings. - Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance to maximize system life and efficiency. - Diagnose and repair HVAC equipment issues such as electrical faults, refrigerant leaks, or airflow imbalances. - Verify that control systems and safety devices are functioning correctly. - Work with project managers and installation teams to resolve post-installation issues quickly and effectively. - Document all service and maintenance work performed, including test results, parts used, and system adjustments. - Provide clear communication to customers about system performance, recommended improvements, and service needs. - Maintain compliance with safety standards, codes, and company procedures. - Participate in training to stay current with HVAC technologies, diagnostic tools, and energy efficiency practices. Required Qualifications - 4+ years of commercial HVAC service or maintenance experience (installation background a plus). - Advanced knowledge of refrigeration cycle - Advanced understanding of wiring schematics and troubleshooting - Must also have knowledge of commercial air-conditioning, heating, water source heat pumps & rooftop packaged HVAC systems. - EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required. - Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, and post-installation troubleshooting. - Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer specifications - Excellent communication and customer service skills. - Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. - Ability to work in diverse environments (rooftops, mechanical rooms, outdoor conditions). Pay Transparency For this role, the anticipated hourly pay range is $40 - $80 USD, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition, Johnson Barrow offers a comprehensive benefits package and reimburses business travel expenses in accordance with company policy.
