Role Description The College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities (CoSSAH) at Harris-Stowe State University is seeking an interdisciplinary Adjunct Instructor of Sociology. A master’s degree in Sociology or a related field is required; however, a Ph.D. in one of the respective subfields (Sociology of Religion, Economic Sociology, etc.) is preferred. A strong candidate will have a strong academic and/or experiential record in one of the subfields of Sociology. All candidates should be willing to demonstrate their commitment to working with undergraduate students in a minority-serving institution. Key Responsibilities - Have the capability to teach 1-3 courses per semester, in the in-person or online format. - Develop, maintain, and distribute course syllabi containing learning objectives, incorporating multiple levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy and meeting institutional and accreditation standards. - Prepare and deliver engaging literature-driven lectures utilizing high-impact teaching practices. - Conduct appropriate evaluations of students' performances and maintain accurate records of grades and attendance according to University requirements. - Provide access to students through regular hours and involvement on campus. - Participate in the development and revision of course content, textbook/equipment selection, instructional materials, and teaching assignment/scheduling. - Provide academic and career advisement and assistance to students as appropriate. - Demonstrate a willingness to adhere to all university policies and procedures. Qualifications - Master’s degree in Sociology or a closely related field.
