Job Description
Senior Business Intelligence Developer
Verisma
• The Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer will own the day-to-day development and maintenance of Verisma's Power BI reporting environment, serving as the primary builder and steward of our business intelligence solutions. • Responsible for translating business requirements into performant, accurate, and compliant reports and dashboards. • Independently resolve report bugs and data discrepancies, manage enhancements, and maintain the reliability and accuracy of all BI assets. • Lead the full build lifecycle for new Power BI reports and dashboards – from requirements gathering and stakeholder alignment through delivery and documentation. • Write and maintain T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions to support reporting and BI needs. • Define and enforce BI standards, naming conventions, semantic model design patterns, and governance frameworks as the team and data platform mature. • Serve as the BI subject matter expert in cross-functional technical discussions, architecture reviews, and data platform planning. • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation including report documentation, data dictionaries, field definitions, measure libraries, and process flows. • Ensure all reporting solutions comply with HIPAA, HITRUST, and SOC 2 requirements for PHI data handling and access governance; maintain audit-ready documentation and access control records.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of hands-on Power BI development experience, including semantic model design, DAX authoring, report and dashboard development, and row-level security implementation
- Strong proficiency in T-SQL and Microsoft SQL Server (2016+), including stored procedures, views, and query optimization at production scale; SQL Server 2019 experience strongly preferred
- Expert-level Power BI performance optimization, including import mode, DirectQuery, composite models, aggregations, and incremental refresh
- Deep experience building and maintaining semantic data models with complex relationships, calculated tables, and row-level security
- Solid understanding of relational database design and dimensional modeling principles as they apply to BI and reporting workloads
- Demonstrated ability to own the full BI build lifecycle independently – from requirements gathering through delivery, documentation, and ongoing maintenance – with minimal supervision
- Proven experience defining or significantly contributing to BI standards, naming conventions, governance frameworks, or data quality programs
- Experience providing technical mentorship to other developers or leading code and design reviews
- Experience serving as a technical subject matter expert; able to represent the BI function in cross-functional discussions and defend design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ownership of HIPAA, HITRUST, or regulated data-handling compliance within a BI or reporting layer; experience maintaining audit-ready documentation and access controls
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document solutions clearly and translate technical findings for business stakeholders
- Experience writing and maintaining technical documentation including data dictionaries, report and measure definitions, and data lineage records
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently in a fast-paced environment, and engage directly with business stakeholders to clarify and deliver against reporting requirements
- Experience with Azure data services including Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Blob Storage, or related services
- Experience with Power BI semantic models backed by Azure Synapse or Azure SQL
- Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD practices for BI or database deployments (e.g., Azure DevOps)
- Background in healthcare technology or other regulated industries strongly preferred
- Experience with Power BI Dataflows for data preparation and transformation within the BI layer
- Exposure to Python for data preparation, automation, or scripting tasks
- Familiarity with SQL-based transformation tooling such as dbt or similar
- Experience with SSAS tabular models or multi-dimensional cubes
- Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300) certification preferred
- Proficiency using AI tooling to accelerate development, documentation, and analysis work
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
Benefits
- Live by and promote Verisma Core Values
