Job Description

Director, Software Engineering - Consumer

ClassPass

Role Description As Director of Software Engineering for Consumer, you'll lead several engineering squads and manage a team of engineering managers responsible for high-impact product and platform initiatives. This is a pivotal role requiring strategic vision, operational excellence, and the ability to scale engineering organizations during a critical growth phase. You'll balance the execution of near-term product initiatives with the architectural decisions that support long-term platform vision. You’ll also help shape how AI advances both our consumer experience and the way our engineering organization operates by identifying high-value opportunities, guiding responsible adoption, and enabling teams to experiment and build with emerging technologies effectively. You'll partner closely with our VP of Engineering, product leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders to unblock teams and drive measurable impact. Your engineering managers will oversee strong individual contributor teams, so you'll focus on providing strategic direction, coaching your manager-level reports, removing organizational friction, and ensuring your leadership creates an environment where your best engineers do their best work. You’ll spend time working on: - Setting vision and strategy for the consumer engineering organization, including roadmap prioritization, technical architecture decisions, and resource allocation across four engineering teams. - Building and developing engineering leaders. - Leading transformative initiatives including a brand-new product launch while also iterating on established platforms. - Enabling rapid experimentation in growth and community, balancing velocity with code quality and scalability. - Managing upward effectively with your VP of Engineering and broader leadership team, surfacing risks and opportunities while advocating for your teams' needs. - Owning cross-team collaboration across consumer surfaces (web, iOS, Android) and backend systems, driving alignment on shared technical decisions. - Championing engineering excellence through hiring, onboarding, technical standards, and operational best practices across your four teams. - Driving organizational health, including talent development, manager feedback and support, and culture initiatives that keep your teams engaged and growing. - Representing consumer engineering within the broader Playlist/ClassPass engineering organization and contributing to org-wide initiatives. Qualifications - 3+ years leading as a Director or Sr. Engineering Manager with demonstrated success building and scaling engineering organizations managing multiple teams and leaders (not just direct IC management). - Significant consumer-facing product experience, ideally with exposure to both web and mobile platforms. - Building and shipping complex products at scale, with a track record of taking initiatives from concept to launch and optimizing them for impact. - Hands-on technical depth in backend systems, APIs, mobile development (iOS/Android), or full-stack architectures. - Shaping and scaling AI-enabled ways of working, including identifying high-leverage opportunities, piloting new workflows, measuring their impact, and driving adoption. - Experience leading teams across time zones and fostering a remote-first, asynchronous-friendly culture. - Experience with some amount of organizational ownership beyond pure IC/manager coaching including headcount planning, hiring, cross-team dependency management, technical architecture decisions. - A growth mindset and comfort with ambiguity. - Strong communication skills with the ability to connect technical and business perspectives, translate between layers of the organization, and drive alignment across functions. Technologies You'll Be Working With - Backend: Kotlin/Java, AWS (ECS, SQS, RDS), microservices. - Mobile: Swift/SwiftUI, Android/Jetpack Compose, modern reactive architectures. - Consumer platforms: Web and mobile frontend frameworks, real-time sync, personalization engines. - Data & Analytics: Event tracking, Snowflake data warehouse, experimentation platforms. Compensation It is Playlist’s intent to pay all Team Members competitive wages and salaries that are motivational, fair and equitable. The goal of Playlist’s compensation program is to be transparent, attract potential employees, meet the needs of all current employees, and encourage Team Members to stay with our organization. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. The base salary range for this position in the United States is $216,000 to $288,000. The total compensation package for this position may also include a performance bonus, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans. Equal Opportunity Employer The Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We highly value diversity at our company and encourage people of all different backgrounds, experiences, abilities and perspectives to apply. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, or other protected characteristics.

Role Description We are seeking a Manager, Product Security Engineering to lead our product security team, which includes the Principal Product Security Engineer, Staff Product Security Engineer, and other product security engineers, while remaining hands-on as a practicing security engineer yourself. This is a working-manager role: roughly half your time will be spent leading, mentoring, and growing your team, and half will be spent as an individual contributor driving certification, accreditation, and hardening efforts such as DISA STIGs, SOC 2, ISO 27001, and other compliance programs our customers and prospects depend on. - Manage, mentor, and grow the product security engineering team, including the Principal Product Security Engineer and Staff Product Security Engineer, covering hiring, career development, and performance management. - Personally own and drive certification and accreditation initiatives, including DISA STIG hardening and authorization packages, SOC 2, ISO 27001, and other frameworks required by customers or regulators. - Give the Principal Product Security Engineer room to own technical strategy and PSIRT leadership, while you translate that strategy into an executable roadmap and hold the team accountable to it. - Remain hands-on: contribute directly to vulnerability remediation, SAST/DAST tooling, security assessments, or PSIRT response alongside the team, while trusting your ICs to own the majority of day-to-day vulnerability hunting and patching. - Prioritize and track the team's vulnerability hunting and patching work — including 0-days found in Dragos products, not just dependency CVEs — to keep it aligned with certification deadlines and customer commitments. - Coordinate with Compliance, Legal, and Sales Engineering to respond to customer security questionnaires, audits, and certification renewals. - Track and report on the team's certification posture, audit readiness, and vulnerability remediation SLAs to Engineering leadership. - Establish and maintain evidence collection processes so certifications and accreditations can be renewed and audited efficiently. - Foster a strong technical community by developing close relationships amongst Engineering Managers. Qualifications - 5+ years of direct cybersecurity or product security experience. - 1-2+ years of experience managing or leading a team of security engineers, or demonstrated team-lead/player-coach experience. - Direct, hands-on experience obtaining or maintaining compliance certifications (SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, or similar) and/or DISA STIG hardening and authorization processes. - Comfortable operating as a working manager, splitting time between people leadership and individual technical contribution. - Experience with SAST/DAST implementation and integrating security tooling into CI/CD pipelines. - Experience with security in cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), on-premise, and virtualized environments. - Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; comfortable representing product security to Compliance, Legal, Sales, and customers. - Management experience with Agile and working in cross-functional Product Teams. - Knowledge of ICS/OT security is a plus. Requirements - Salary: $220,000. - Competitive Equity Package. - Comprehensive Benefits Plan. Company Description Dragos is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, orientation, national origin, age, disability, genetics, or any other basis forbidden under federal, state, or local laws. All new hires must pass a background check as a condition of employment.

Role Description We're hiring an Engineering Manager for the Catalog team — the system of record for every product sold on the platform. The team owns the product data model, taxonomy and attribution, data quality, and the browse and filtration experience that turns catalog data into discovery. This is a player-coach role. You'll manage a team of engineers — hiring, growing, and holding the bar — while staying hands-on enough to review schemas, challenge query plans, and shape architecture through written RFCs rather than by taking delivery work yourself. Catalog reads sit on the hottest path of every storefront request, and catalog data quality directly drives filtration depth, feed approval, SEO eligibility, and merchant GMV. You'll be expected to lead through earned authority: influence built on judgment, consistency, and care — not the reporting line. What You'll Own - Product Data & Attribution - The catalog data model — products, variants, media, pricing, availability — correct on write, fast on read, at the scale of merchants running 100k+ SKUs on shared infrastructure - Attribute architecture: category-scoped schemas, multilingual values, merchant-defined custom fields - Coexistence of merchant category trees with a canonical platform taxonomy - Data quality as a measurable system: completeness scoring, identifier coverage, enrichment loops that lift feed approval and conversion - Filtration & Indexing - Faceted navigation with accurate counts, category listing performance, sort/ordering at scale - The pipeline from product mutation to searchable document — event-driven updates, freshness SLAs, zero-downtime reindexing - The index contract that relevance is built on, in partnership with the Search team (who own query-side ranking) What You'll Manage - Own hiring end-to-end; raise the bar with every offer - Build growth plans tied to the domain's hardest problems; run honest performance management, difficult conversations included - Protect the team's focus — predictable scoping and sequencing, and the willingness to say no with reasons - Own the tech-debt roadmap as a standing capacity allocation, backed by postmortems and engineering health metrics - Own incident response and observability of the domain itself — feed rejection rates, index lag, facet latency, not just server health - Partner daily with Product, Storefront, Search, and channel-feed teams Qualifications - 8+ years in software engineering with 3+ years managing engineers — and evidence of people outcomes: engineers you hired, grew, and promoted, and performance you managed honestly. - Deep backend and relational-database expertise at scale: schema design, indexing strategy, query-plan analysis, and safe migrations on large, hot tables. - Production ownership of search/discovery infrastructure — OpenSearch/Elasticsearch or Algolia-class platforms — powering catalog browse or filtration at real scale. - E-commerce or marketplace catalog depth: taxonomy design, variant/attribute modeling, and product feed ecosystems. Nice to have - PHP/Laravel and MySQL specifically (our stack) — or clear evidence you go deep in a new stack quickly. - Multi-tenant SaaS experience: tenant isolation, per-tenant limits, noisy-neighbor mitigation. - Arabic-language data awareness (normalization, mixed-script content) and RTL product thinking. - Google Merchant Center and structured-data/SEO experience. - Redis and edge caching for high-read paths, including invalidation design.
