Role Description EDF is looking for a writer, thinker, and communicator with internal comms expertise and the versatility to flex beyond it. This role sits at the center of how EDF's staff understands the organization, its direction, and its mission. You'll keep people informed, connected, and inspired, and you'll do it with craft: clear prose, sharp instincts, and a knack for making complex ideas feel human and urgent. Reporting to the Director, Internal Communications, you'll partner with leaders and staff across the Executive Management Team, Global Mission, Global Enterprise, and Development to help them communicate with clarity and purpose. You'll build and maintain the channels that keep EDF functioning as a coherent organization, and you'll bring enough range to step into other communications challenges as they arise. Key Responsibilities - Write clear and compelling content across formats including features, Slack posts, leadership messages, event scripts, and video concepts — adapting to fit the audience and moment. - Translate complex, technical, or sensitive material into content that people read and remember. - Produce and oversee graphics, short-form video, and live and virtual events that bring the organization together. - Own measurement across internal channels. Move fast to track what works, report on what doesn't, and act on what you learn. - Advise colleagues and leaders on content, tone, and timing, including on difficult topics that require diplomacy and precision. - Collaborate with IT to evaluate, implement, and optimize communications tools and platforms. - An interest in experimenting thoughtfully with emerging technologies and AI tools — staying current on what's possible while remaining clear-eyed about their environmental costs and alignment with EDF's mission. - Communicate in ways that reflect, include, and respect the full diversity of EDF's global staff. - Bring range: internal communications is the home base, but strong candidates will have the curiosity and capability to contribute beyond it. - Participate in advancing EDF's Organizational Effectiveness and Culture (OEC) goals, so people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address environmental and organizational challenges in ways that align with EDF values. - Plan and execute specific campaigns to support the change management process. - Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or related field. A Master’s degree or equivalent may substitute for up to 2 years of relevant experience. - At least four years of proven experience in communications, with documented experience producing content across mediums (including writing and editing for intranet, videos, and live events) for global audiences. - Excellent writing and editing skills, especially for digital platforms, with the ability to apply a fun, accessible voice as appropriate. - Concise and meticulous about accuracy and grammar. - Strong judgment and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality as needed. - Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency, and inclusiveness, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across all cultures and backgrounds. - Ability to tailor communication to specific audiences according to job levels (ex. for people managers). - Working knowledge of internal communications tools, platforms, and approaches. Google Analytics, CMS Platforms, and Basic HTML a plus. - Basic graphic design, photo, and video editing experience (ex. Canva). - Comfortable using major communication platforms (ex. Microsoft Teams) to host and facilitate large and small interactive events. - Ability to work independently, prioritize, and take initiative to suggest improvements. - Proven experience transforming complex intellectual, scientific, or academic material into compelling content. - Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to balance many projects and manage timelines. - Committed to learning and applying brand guidelines. - Strong interest in the EDF mission. - Willingness to travel 1-2 times per year for staff/team conferences or professional development opportunities. - Proficiency in 2 or more languages is a plus. Benefits - We offer a strong total rewards package encompassing competitive salary, robust benefits, and professional development opportunities consistent with a modern global organization. - Pay ranges are country-specific. The stated currency is not meant to be converted into any other currency. - Salary range: 72,000 - 76,000 USD.
