Role Description We're looking for an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer with deep Terraform and DevOps expertise to join our growing Cloud Operations team at a Specialist level. You'll take hands-on ownership of infrastructure engineering - designing, automating and maintaining Azure infrastructure at scale - while acting as a senior technical point of contact for the wider service team. This role suits someone who lives and breathes infrastructure-as-code, treats automation as the default way of working, and wants to deliver resilient, secure and cost-efficient cloud platforms for our customers. What you'll be doing - Design, build and maintain Azure infrastructure using Terraform as the primary IaC (infrastructure-as-code) tool. - Develop and own CI/CD pipelines across Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions for both infrastructure and application deployments. - Automate provisioning, configuration and lifecycle management across multiple client environments and subscriptions. - Implement and enforce security, governance and compliance baselines, covering Azure Policy, RBAC (role-based access control), Key Vault, networking and landing zones. - Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise the performance, reliability and cost of Azure workloads. - Coordinate workload and prioritisation across the team, conduct code and architecture reviews, and help uphold engineering excellence across the team's output. - Work closely with Solution Architects and the Head of Cloud Operations on solution design, migrations and customer onboarding. - Participate in an on-call / out-of-hours rota. Qualifications - Proven, in-depth experience engineering and operating Microsoft Azure environments in production. - Extensive Terraform experience - writing, structuring and maintaining modules, state management, workspaces and remote backends. - Strong DevOps background, including CI/CD pipeline design, Git-based workflows and release automation. - Demonstrable experience leading or mentoring engineers, setting technical direction and coordinating team delivery. - Solid scripting ability in PowerShell, Bash or Python. - Sound understanding of Azure networking, identity (Entra ID), security and governance. - Experience with monitoring and observability tooling such as Azure Monitor and Log Analytics. - Excellent troubleshooting skills and a methodical, root-cause approach to problems. Requirements - Azure certifications (such as AZ-104, AZ-305 or AZ-400) or a HashiCorp Terraform Associate qualification. - Experience with containers and orchestration (AKS, Docker, Kubernetes). - Exposure to multi-tenant or MSP environments and client-facing delivery. - Familiarity with configuration management and policy-as-code tooling. SME should have experience with the Benefitfocus platform, and the Empyrean platform. The role involves: - Configuring benefit plans, managing data integrations, troubleshooting system issues, and collaborating with business and technical teams to ensure successful client implementations. Key Responsibilities - Configure and maintain benefit plans, eligibility rules, rates, coverage levels, and enrollment settings within the respective platform (Benefitfocus or Empyrean). - Configure, manage, and support inbound and outbound data feeds, including file validation, data mapping, reconciliation, and issue resolution. - Support client implementations, system enhancements, testing, and production activities. - Analyze business requirements and translate them into effective platform configurations. - Perform system testing, troubleshoot configuration and file feed issues, and coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve defects. - Create and maintain configuration documentation, process flows, and support documentation. - Ensure accurate and timely delivery of benefits administration solutions while adhering to project timelines and quality standards. • This role sits on our platform team: designing, building, and maintaining the backend APIs and services the rest of engineering builds on, as our AI workflow platform scales to many times its current surface. • Sample projects include building a unified API for our insights data and storing metrics from our data providers at scale. • The stack is Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB, with React on the frontend. • We're remote by default with real in-person time: product, engineering, and design get together for a focused build week every couple of months, plus a summer retreat.
