Planning Specialist Location: - Hybrid (Detroit, Michigan, United States) - Remote (United States) Work Arrangement: Hybrid (The company states it offers a flexible, hybrid working environment, but no specific office location or in-office schedule is provided for this role.) Employment Type: Full-time Job Description: THE JOB Signal Advisors is seeking a Planning Specialist to elevate the technical planning acumen of our advisor community. In this role, you’ll help advisors translate client goals and data into clear, actionable planning strategies—integrating protection, income, and accumulation concepts into cohesive recommendations. Your work sits at the intersection of financial analysis and advisor enablement. You’ll take the messy, incomplete, real-world inputs that sales-oriented advisors bring to us and turn them into structured, modular planning insights they can confidently deliver to clients. You’ll also provide technical guidance on where annuities, life insurance, and investment considerations fit within a broader, well-constructed financial plan. This is a role for someone who enjoys being the technical backbone behind strong advisors—someone who can see the strategy behind the products, connect the dots quickly, and bring clarity to complex client scenarios. WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO - Translate advisor-submitted client data into structured planning proposals that address a wide range of client objectives, from common retirement income, longevity and risk management concerns to advanced tax and estate planning needs. - Design clear, modular planning recommendations that advisors can present directly to clients, connecting how asset management, annuities and life insurance each support the broader plan. - Evaluate advisor goals and client constraints to identify suitable product strategies—using product knowledge as a tool within a planning framework, not the end goal. - Guide advisors through technical questions related to planning logic, case design, suitability considerations, and the strategic role of individual solutions. - Support field underwriting diligence by helping advisors understand risk factors and set appropriate expectations with applicants. - Create and refine planning deliverables (summaries, scenario comparisons, plan modules) that elevate advisor professionalism and deepen client trust. - Provide thoughtful, planning-first support via platform messaging, live phone support and case consultations—bringing clarity and direction to sales-oriented advisors who rely on deep technical expertise. - Collaborate with the Planning team to evolve our tools, templates, workflows, and internal knowledge base as our offering grows. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN TEAM MEMBERS - Executer: We’re currently building out many new initiatives and programs. You’ll need to quickly ramp up and start executing. We talk a lot about strategy and high-level ideas, and you should be able to independently translate ideas into action, dig into the details, and make progress toward our team’s goals. - Customer Centric: You’re obsessed with creating an unparalleled customer experience. You lead with compassion, anticipate customer needs and wants, and bring ease and calm to all interactions—knowing every customer interaction is an opportunity to amaze. - Problem Solver: Working at a startup is rife with challenges. These challenges invigorate you! When you come up against friction or roadblocks, you demonstrate excellent problem solving skills—exploring creative solutions and taking ownership to keep moving forward. WHAT YOU HAVE - A deep knowledge of insurance products, especially annuities. - 1-2 years of experience in financial planning or paraplanning. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a keen attention to detail. WHAT WE VALUE @ SIGNAL These are the values that drive how we operate and make decisions. We’re obsessed with finding a better way. Never settle for less. We act with a sense of urgency. We use our best judgment to act urgently on the right things at the right time. We raise our level of awareness. Everything starts with awareness. We’re curious and alert to what is happening around us. We find inches everywhere around us. There are thousands of opportunities to make an impact. We take those opportunities and act. We do the right thing. Sticking to the highest standard of integrity is not optional. We have strong opinions, loosely held. It’s not about WHO is right, it’s about WHAT is right. Simplicity is Genius. Simplicity doesn’t just clarify; it makes things better for everyone. It’s that simple. Ideas are valued, execution is worshiped. Great ideas get you to the 50-yard line; outstanding execution gets you into the end zone. We are the "they". There is no "they". We are empowered to fix things, to be proactive, to find a solution. We launch big ideas and then obsess over feedback to learn how we can make it even better.
