Role Description The Application Developer II (ServiceNow Developer) is a mid‑level role that designs, develops, and maintains applications on the ServiceNow platform, focusing on IT Service Management (ITSM), CMDB, Customer Service Management (CSM), and Service Portals in an agile enterprise environment. The role translates well‑defined business requirements and user stories into scalable configurations, workflows, integrations, and user experiences that support mission‑critical processes in a dedicated, domain‑separated ServiceNow instance. Operating with moderate independence under the guidance of senior developers or a technical lead, this role participates in the full application lifecycle—from design and build through testing, deployment, and post‑production support—using coding, platform configuration, and analytics to improve service delivery, performance, and user satisfaction. Key Responsibilities - Design, develop, configure, and maintain ServiceNow applications with an emphasis on ITSM, CMDB, CSM, and Service Portals, ensuring solutions are reliable, scalable, and aligned to established enterprise and platform standards. - Build and customize Service Portals using HTML, CSS, AngularJS, and responsive design practices to deliver intuitive, user‑friendly interfaces for customers, agents, and internal stakeholders. - Develop and maintain server‑side and client‑side scripts (JavaScript, Glide API) and workflows to automate business processes, enforce business rules, and optimize ITSM and CSM operations and portal experiences. - Implement and support integrations between ServiceNow and external systems using REST/SOAP APIs and middleware, following defined patterns to ensure data integrity, security, and stable end‑to‑end workflows across ITSM, CMDB, and CSM. - Apply agile practices (Scrum/Kanban) including participation in backlog grooming, sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, and iterative delivery, contributing estimates and working closely with product owners and senior team members. - Use Excel, ServiceNow reporting, and platform analytics to design dashboards and reports, monitor KPIs, and recommend improvements to application performance and user experience across ITSM, CMDB, CSM, and Service Portals. - Configure and leverage ServiceNow AI and automation capabilities (e.g., Virtual Agent, Predictive Intelligence) within defined patterns to streamline case handling, routing, and knowledge access for CSM and related processes. - Manage assigned portions of the application lifecycle, including unit testing, regression support, deployment coordination, and post‑release issue resolution in collaboration with release, operations, and senior development staff. - Work with stakeholders and end users to clarify requirements, refine user stories, and translate business needs into clear technical designs and configuration specifications within guardrails set by senior developers. - Apply appropriate roles, groups, and access controls in ServiceNow, following established security and compliance patterns for regulated enterprise environments. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. - Approximately 3–7 years of experience in ServiceNow development or enterprise application development, including hands‑on work with ITSM, CSM, CMDB, and Service Portals or similar service management modules. - Proven proficiency in ServiceNow platform development, including JavaScript/Glide scripting, workflow configuration, and customization of ITSM, CMDB, CSM, and portal components. - Demonstrated experience building and managing Service Portals using front‑end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and AngularJS, with an understanding of responsive design best practices. - Experience designing and maintaining integrations using REST/SOAP APIs in an enterprise environment, following secure coding and data handling practices. - Strong understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban), with practical experience working in sprints and delivering iterative enhancements as part of a cross‑functional team. - ServiceNow Certified System Administrator and ServiceNow Certified Application Developer credentials (required). - Strong communication, problem‑solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to handle moderately complex tasks, balance multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively across teams. Preferred Qualifications - Experience implementing or supporting ServiceNow ITSM, CSM, and CMDB in large‑scale or highly regulated environments. - Exposure to ServiceNow AI/automation capabilities, including Virtual Agent, Predictive Intelligence, and AI‑driven workflows. - Additional ServiceNow certifications such as Implementation Specialist in CSM, ITSM, or related practice areas. - Agile or Scrum certification (e.g., CSM, SAFe) and experience contributing to solution design or leading small development workstreams under guidance from a lead or architect.
