Role Description Allied Universal® is hiring a Senior Database Administrator. The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the design, administration, security, optimization, availability, and support of enterprise database platforms. Serving as a senior technical resource, this role provides leadership in database architecture, performance tuning, disaster recovery, automation, and data integration initiatives. The position partners closely with application development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and business teams to ensure database environments are secure, stable, scalable, and aligned with organizational objectives, while also serving as an escalation point for complex production issues and database-related projects. Responsibilities: - Database Administration: - Administer Microsoft SQL Server and related database technologies. - Ensure availability, reliability, performance, and recoverability of production, development, test, and disaster recovery environments through installation, upgrades, migrations, patching, maintenance, backup, recovery, monitoring, capacity planning, and growth forecasting. - Performance Monitoring and Optimization: - Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, execution plan analysis, and system configuration improvements. - Identify and resolve application and database performance bottlenecks. - Establish database development, performance, and optimization standards; review application code and database structures. - Database Architecture and Design: - Support database architecture, technology planning, schema design, data modeling, and integration initiatives. - Participate in enterprise projects to ensure scalability, maintainability, and alignment with business requirements. - Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements. - Security and Compliance: - Implement and maintain security controls, access management, and privileged account governance in accordance with corporate, regulatory, audit, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements. - Support vulnerability remediation, security assessments, and protection of sensitive and regulated data. - Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: - Develop, maintain, test, and validate disaster recovery procedures, backup recovery processes, recovery objectives, and business continuity plans. - Automation and Operational Excellence: - Develop automation solutions using T-SQL, PowerShell, SQL Agent, and related technologies to improve efficiency through scripting, monitoring, alerting, and self-healing processes. - Maintain operational documentation, standard operating procedures, and database administration standards. - Application and Development Support: - Support application deployments, production releases, reporting, integration, and analytics solutions. - Partner with development teams on database design, coding best practices, and troubleshooting database-related application issues. - Leadership and Collaboration: - Serve as a senior technical advisor and mentor for database technologies. - Participate in project planning, estimation, and technical reviews while effectively communicating with technical and business stakeholders. - Provide after-hours support and participate in on-call rotations as required. Qualifications - Must possess one of the following: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field of study. - Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field of study with a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible database administration experience. - High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible database administration experience. - Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible database administration experience. - Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting mission-critical Microsoft SQL Server environments. - Experience supporting high-availability enterprise systems, database performance tuning, backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery solutions, and on-premises and cloud-hosted database environments. - Experience with SQL Server Agent, SSIS, SSRS, Always On Availability Groups, Replication, Database Mirroring, and backup/recovery methodologies. - Experience with PowerShell scripting, automation, database monitoring, performance analysis, data modeling, database design, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis. - Advanced Microsoft SQL Server administration and T-SQL programming skills. - Strong project leadership, oral and written communication skills. - Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic enterprise environment. Preferred Qualifications - Experience with Azure SQL, Azure Managed Instance, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, data warehousing, business intelligence, CI/CD, DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, and automation frameworks. - Microsoft SQL Server and/or Azure certifications. - Experience in highly regulated industries and supporting SOX, PCI, CMMC, DFARS, HIPAA, or similar compliance frameworks. Benefits - The anticipated salary range is $110,000 – $120,000 annually. - Medical, dental, vision, basic life, AD&D, retirement plan and disability insurance. - Eight paid holidays annually, five sick days, and four personal days. - Vacation time offered at an accrual rate of 3.08 hours biweekly; unused vacation is only paid out where required by law.
