AI Art Director/Prompt Engineer

Role Description We're looking for Art Directors to join a team working on training data curation for generative AI image and video models. You'll curate and evaluate visual datasets that teach models to produce new styles as well as improve core visual capabilities. You'll also contribute prompt engineering work to evaluate and refine model outputs. This is a hands-on, visually demanding role. You'll need a sharp editorial eye, deep fluency across a wide range of visual styles and aesthetics, and the ability to work quickly and at volume. Responsibilities - Curate image and video training datasets for specific styles, aesthetics, and visual capabilities - Evaluate and select reference material based on stylistic accuracy, quality, and diversity - Define and document the visual elements that characterize a given style (color, composition, texture, lighting, subject matter, etc.) - Write and iterate on prompts to test model outputs against style targets - Assess model outputs for quality, style fidelity, and failure modes - Collaborate with ML engineers and researchers on training data requirements - Stay current with the rapidly evolving landscape of generative AI image and video models Qualifications - Strong visual curation ability — demonstrated experience selecting, organizing, or editing large sets of images or video based on style, quality, and intent - Deep knowledge of visual styles and aesthetics — ability to recognize and articulate what defines a broad range of styles (fine art movements, photography genres, illustration styles, cinematic looks, design trends, etc.) - Attention to detail — ability to spot subtle quality issues such as color accuracy, anatomical correctness, lighting inconsistencies, or stylistic drift - Speed and volume — comfortable working through large datasets efficiently without sacrificing quality - Background in art direction, photography, design, illustration, or a related visual field — you need a trained eye Additional Skills & Qualifications - Prior experience curating or labeling training data for AI/ML models - Experience with the latest AI image and video generation tools and proven prompt engineering skills - Ability to keep up with the fast pace of change in the AI creative tools space - Experience working cross-functionally with technical teams (ML engineers, researchers) - Finger on the pulse of current visual trends across social and creative platforms Experience Level Intermediate Level Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Jose, CA.
