Role Description The Medical Director serves as the senior physician leader responsible for clinical performance, care model execution, and medical oversight across the national prescriber organization. They are supported by regional clinical leads and work closely as a dyad leadership team with the Medical Director of APCs. Together, these roles ensure safe, effective, and scalable care delivery aligned to company strategy, regulatory requirements, and financial performance. The Medical Director leads physician clinical practice standards, supervises prescriber performance, and partners cross-functionally to optimize care delivery models, workflows, and product capabilities that enable high-quality outcomes at scale. Key Responsibilities - Clinical Leadership & Physician Oversight - Serve as the primary physician leader for all physician prescribers (MDs/DOs). - Establish expectations for clinical practice (both primary care and obesity medicine), documentation, and patient management. - Ensure physician engagement, professional development, and retention. - Partner to ensure physician productivity, patient access, and overall performance. - Partner with Operations and Finance to align staffing models to demand and to monitor visit utilization, follow-up cadence, and capacity management. - Intervene on underperformance through coaching and structured improvement plans. - Lead peer review, case consultation, and first-level physician escalations. - Recruit and onboard new physicians to knownwell expectations and best practices. - Oversee up to 4 APCs in states where legally licensed. - Care Model & Workflow Design - Identify gaps in care delivery and clinical workflows by participating in approximately 4 hours of direct patient care per week. - Partner with Product, Ops, and Analytics to design scalable solutions. - Inform product specifications to ensure safe and efficacious care. - Guide clinical aspects of scheduling models and visit design. - Quality & Governance Partnership - Partner with Clinical Quality to uphold evidence-based care standards. - Support incident review, safety escalations, and risk mitigation. - Reinforce documentation integrity and coding accuracy. - Ensure regulatory and collaborative practice compliance. - Support physician collaboration agreements and APC supervision frameworks. - Ensure appropriate supervisory ratios and coverage models. - Support onboarding readiness for new prescribers. - Clinical Commitment - Primarily administrative leadership role. - 4-6 clinical hours per week. Qualifications - MD or DO with multi-state licensure in good standing. - Proven clinical experience, preferably in primary care, weight management, or obesity medicine. - Strong interest in clinical education, curriculum development, health care operations, and mentorship. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across clinical and operational teams. - Willingness to travel periodically to support market-specific needs. - Comfort navigating virtual care platforms, with proficiency in or willingness to develop expertise in Athena. - Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with a high degree of organization and follow-through. - Commitment to knownwell®’s mission of weight-inclusive, compassionate, evidence-based care. - Special consideration to be given for applicants with previous medical directorship roles, ABOM Certification, and start-up experience.
