Role Description Make a meaningful impact by shaping EMC’s Public Entity business strategy and driving profitable growth across a specialized portfolio. In this leadership role, you'll serve as the enterprise expert for the Public Entity segment, partnering with underwriting, claims, risk improvement, actuarial, and regional teams to develop innovative solutions and guide complex underwriting decisions. You'll influence product strategy, portfolio performance, and market direction while helping teams navigate challenging risks and capitalize on growth opportunities. This is an opportunity to combine strategic thinking, industry expertise, and collaboration to strengthen EMC’s market position and deliver long-term value to our customers and organization. - Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert for the Public Entity segment, providing strategic underwriting and product direction. - Lead development and execution of segment strategies, business plans, and initiatives aligned with profitability goals. - Oversee portfolio performance, including profit and loss management and long-term growth strategies. - Analyze premium, loss, and market data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement. - Develop and communicate underwriting best practices, appetite, and guidance across the organization. - Evaluate market opportunities and recommend product enhancements, new offerings, and coverage improvements. - Draft and refine policy coverage language to support evolving market and customer needs. - Partner with Claims, Risk Improvement, Actuarial, and other business units to achieve segment objectives. - Provide expert guidance on complex underwriting risks, including coverage, pricing, limits, and business acceptability. - Review and authorize accounts exceeding regional underwriting authority and determine facultative reinsurance needs. - Support underwriting quality assurance through audits, reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives. - Lead or participate in strategic projects, vendor relationships, and product implementation efforts. - Develop and deliver underwriting training, workshops, and educational resources while mentoring team members. - Represent EMC and Corporate Underwriting through industry events, committees, marketing initiatives, and thought leadership activities. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business or insurance related field, or equivalent relevant experience. - Ten years of commercial property and casualty underwriting including at least three years of staff underwriting experience in applicable industry segment. - Insurance designations, such as AU, CIC, or CPCU preferred. Requirements - Advanced, proven knowledge of countrywide underwriting techniques, terminology, policies, and forms in applicable business area. - Excellent underwriting judgment and decision-making skills. - Strong knowledge of key performance indicators (KPIs) and ways to improve them. - Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills. - Ability to work effectively with others, as well as independently and possess demonstrated problem-solving abilities. - Strong computer knowledge, Internet and keyboarding skills. - Strong ability to advise, partner, influence and effectively consult with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, executives, and project owners. - Strong ability to distill and communicate highly complex issues for technical and non-technical audiences. - Strong ability to translate technical ideas into more general terms for business customers. - Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving. Benefits - The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following: $112,276 - $161,326 or $124,084 - $177,469. - A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range.
