Senior Tax Specialist

Stefanini Group

Role Description Play a critical role in supporting the Tax Department, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and international tax regulations (NA/APAC). Responsibilities include: - Preparing and filing federal tax returns (e.g., 1120, 5471, 5472, 1118), calculating provisions for GILTI, FDII, BEAT. - Preparing and submitting state and local income and franchise tax returns, including supporting workpapers, schedules, and monitoring the tax calendar for deadlines. - Filing federal, state, and local tax estimates and extensions. - Preparing and filing monthly/quarterly sales and use tax, GST/HST/VAT, and commercial activity tax returns. - Assisting in the preparation of various foreign tax returns in collaboration with outside tax firms. - Managing responses to federal and state tax notices or audits, including compiling and reviewing supporting data and documentation. - Conducting research on tax compliance and planning matters to ensure adherence to regulations. - Interpreting financial statement data to prepare and review tax provision schedules for inclusion in financial statements. - Collaborating with internal teams (e.g., Accounting, Treasury) and external vendors to support cross-departmental projects as needed. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. - Master's degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field is a plus. - CPA exams passed or in progress preferred. This position offers the opportunity to fulfill qualifying hours of experience toward obtaining a Michigan CPA license. Requirements - Strong understanding of tax and accounting principles (under IFRS and local GAAP is a plus). - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced Excel skills are a plus). - Experience with tax programs such as Checkpoint/Orbitax for research, OneSource for tax preparation, and PeopleSoft for accounting is a plus. - Highly detail-oriented and organized with strong analytical skills. - Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team. - Strong communication skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders effectively.

The Tax Senior Manager is a remote position within the United States.  This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. #LI-Remote What Your Responsibilities Will Be - Lead the global indirect tax accounting and compliance lifecycle, including maintaining indirect tax general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate and timely indirect tax filings, and making tax payments. - Serve as primary reviewer (or preparer, as needed) of calculations, forms, and other information related to indirect taxes including property, sales, gross receipts, use, franchise, and digital service taxes. - Actively manage global external tax service providers and supply them with timely, complete, and accurate information. - Lead and manage indirect tax audits, including coordinating responses, communicating directly with auditors, gathering and reviewing supporting documentation, and maintaining thorough audit files and correspondence records. - Communicate effectively across time zones with global stakeholders, including internal teams, service providers, and tax authorities. - Continuously evaluate existing indirect tax processes with a critical eye toward improvement; identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability through better workflows, automation, or technology. - Research indirect tax technical issues, documenting facts, issues, and conclusions timely, completely and accurately. - Monitor and assess the impact of evolving indirect tax laws and regulations, keeping stakeholders informed and processes aligned. - Execute tax-related internal controls and develop and maintain internal control documentation. - Support payroll tax technical matters and create or review state income tax apportionment computations, where needed What You’ll Need To Be Successful - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree (MST/JD/LLM) is a plus. - Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in public accounting and/or in industry, with meaningful exposure to US indirect tax compliance. - Strong hands-on experience with US state and local indirect tax, including sales and use tax compliance, tax accounting, audit defense, and taxability analysis; familiarity with GST and VAT is a plus. - Demonstrated integrity and professional judgment, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. - Strong self-management and organizational skills, including the ability to independently prioritize, manage competing deadlines, and maintain quality under pressure in a fast-paced environment. - Ability to see the big picture across responsibilities and proactively identify opportunities to improve, streamline, or replace existing processes to produce a more efficient and accurate indirect tax compliance function. - General familiarity with US GAAP financial reporting concepts, including the ability to prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules in accordance with standard accounting principles. - Strong research, analytical, and documentation skills with close attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and completeness. - Proficiency in Excel and comfort working with large volumes of structured data; familiarity with general ledger systems and tax compliance technology, including Avalara products and NetSuite a plus. - Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain indirect tax requirements and positions clearly to non-tax stakeholders. Pay Range Details The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations. Colorado $136,400-$225,000 (annually)  Washington $136,400-$248,600 (annually)  California $136,400-$272,500 (annually)  NYC $165,100-$272,500 (annually)  The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual salary/wage may be based on various factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and the employee’s role.
