VFX Artist Lead - Gaming
Homa
Role Description You’ll be joining a highly ambitious team working on a new mobile RPG game currently in active development. The team is intentionally lean; this role comes with a high level of ownership and impact. You won’t be one VFX artist among many; you’ll play a key role in shaping the game’s visual quality, player experience, and overall game feel from an early stage. Reporting directly to the Art Director and collaborating closely with developers, UI/UX, and fellow artists in a highly iterative and feedback-driven environment. This is an opportunity to have a visible impact on a game’s artistic direction and contribute to building a visually memorable player experience. Mission As a Lead VFX Artist, you will play a critical role in shaping the visual identity and game feel of a new mobile RPG title. You’ll own the creation and implementation of high-quality gameplay VFX that make combat impactful, rewards satisfying, and every player interaction feel polished and memorable. - Create impactful and polished gameplay VFX for heroes, bosses, abilities, combat interactions, and gameplay feedback systems. - Design and implement high-impact effects for reward moments, progression systems, hero unlocks/upgrades, store interactions, and pop-ups. - Work directly inside Unity to implement effects, collaborate with developers, and contribute to improving VFX workflows and pipelines. - Collaborate closely with Art Direction to help evolve the game’s VFX style and overall visual quality. - Contribute to the ongoing visual evolution of the game across gameplay, UI/UX, and presentation polish. - Create effects that improve gameplay readability, impact, pacing, responsiveness, and overall player immersion. - Participate actively in collaborative reviews and iteration cycles to continuously raise the quality bar across the project. This is a unique opportunity to join a project early, have meaningful creative ownership, and directly influence the visual quality and success of a new RPG title. Qualifications - Strong experience creating and implementing real-time VFX directly inside Unity. - Excellent understanding of animation fundamentals such as timing, spacing, readability, anticipation, and impact. - Experience shipping or significantly contributing to mobile games. - A portfolio showcasing polished gameplay VFX with strong visual clarity and game feel. - Experience working collaboratively with developers, designers, and artists in fast-paced production environments. - A proactive mindset with high ownership and strong attention to detail. - Comfort receiving and giving feedback in highly iterative creative environments. Requirements - Nice to have: Experience with Spine. - 3D skills in Blender or similar software. - Knowledge of mesh-based or technical VFX workflows. - Experience improving pipelines or exploring new VFX workflows inside Unity. - Experience working on RPG, action, or hero-based games. Portfolio quality is critical for this role. We are specifically looking for candidates with strong gameplay VFX experience rather than purely cinematic or film-oriented VFX backgrounds. Even if you don’t check every box in our requirements, we encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and backgrounds, and we’re more interested in your potential and passion than a perfect match to our checklist. Benefits - 🏥 Comprehensive Benefits: Depending on your location, you’ll enjoy a range of perks such as insurance, meal vouchers, public transport, gym memberships, and more. - 🏢 Paris HQ Access: Enjoy a desk at our private office in a well-located WeWork building that will give you access to WeWork perks like rooftop view and designed coworking spaces. - 🌍 Coworking Access: You will have access to WeWork spaces throughout Europe, along with all their perks and professional office environments. - 🌐 Global Team: Collaborate in English with top-tier talent from 35+ countries, spanning Europe, the UK, the US, and more. Diversity fuels our creativity and innovation. - ✈️ Team Gatherings: We value time together beyond the screen. Join us for occasional team gatherings, off-site retreats (Workations as we name them) to connect, recharge, and celebrate. - 📈 Performance Reviews: We’re committed to your growth. Every six months, we reflect on your progress, recognize your achievements, and align on clear development goals. - 💻 Equipment Support: From day one, we’ll provide everything you need to do your best work, including a home office setup allowance if you're working remotely. Company Description At Homa, we prioritize talent, energy, and determination over traditional credentials. We’re building a global community of brilliant, driven people who think boldly, act with pragmatism, move fast, and push boundaries. We believe true innovation comes from diverse perspectives, deep collaboration, and curiosity without limits. Our culture is grounded in four core values: - Humility: We recognise that we are always learning, we can always improve and grow - we stay grounded in a clear view of ourselves. - Curiosity: We continuously seek the “why” behind the “what” - we explore with purpose and practicality. - Focus: Our curiosity takes us deeper, not wider - we obsess over the details and let pragmatism guide our attention. - Ambition: We strive for the best - we don’t settle for “good enough,” - we use common sense to reach higher.
