Maritime IT Field Service Technician

Role Description As a Maritime IT Field Service Technician at Global Satcoms, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality technical support and on-site services to maritime clients across various regions. This includes the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of satellite communication systems, IT infrastructure, and networking equipment aboard commercial vessels, offshore platforms, and maritime assets. - Conduct field installations, upgrades, and commissioning of VSAT systems (C/Ku/Ka-band), Starlink, and L-band terminals (e.g., FleetBroadband, Iridium Certus). - Perform IT systems integration including onboard LAN/WAN setup, IP networking, firewall configuration, and cybersecurity compliance checks. - Provide hands-on technical support for onboard IT systems, including routers, switches, servers, Wi-Fi access points, and IoT maritime equipment. - Collaborate with NOC teams and remote engineering support to diagnose and resolve connectivity and system performance issues. - Complete site surveys, service reports, handover documents, and technical documentation in accordance with Global Satcoms’ standards. - Ensure all safety protocols and client-specific requirements are followed during onboard interventions. - Maintain communication with vessel agents, ship operators, and logistics teams to coordinate travel, tools, and spare parts for interventions. - Provide customer training and onboard support during handover when necessary. Qualifications - Proven experience in field engineering or maritime IT support roles (minimum 2 years preferred). - Strong knowledge of maritime VSAT, L-band, and hybrid satellite systems. - Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, VPNs, and cybersecurity best practices. - Familiarity with maritime regulations (IMO, ISPS) and onboard IT environment. - Ability to read technical diagrams and interpret system schematics. - Strong communication, documentation, and customer service skills. - Fluent in English; other languages (e.g., Spanish, French, Arabic) are a plus. - Valid seafarer’s medical (ENG1 or equivalent) and willingness to travel globally on short notice.
