Senior Software Engineer
Veterinary Emergency Group
• Build and improve backend systems that support DogByte and other internal products as VEG continues to grow • Own projects from problem framing through production release, including technical design, sequencing, testing, rollout, and follow-through • Partner with Product to understand how hospital and internal teams use our systems, then translate that context into practical backend decisions which work now and will continue to scale through hospital expansion • Collaborate with our SRE and DevSecOps teams to support safe, repeatable releases and healthy production systems • Use AI tools thoughtfully across code generation, review, testing, documentation, and problem-solving while maintaining strong judgment for quality and risk. • Review work across teams and provide technical feedback that improves quality, consistency, and long-term product stability
Job Requirements
- 5+ years in engineering environments where developers own code through release, including CI/CD and production quality
- Strong backend ownership, with the ability to guide work from ambiguous problem to production-ready solution
- Product judgment, including the ability to understand user workflows and make technical decisions based on how systems are used in the real world
- A proactive approach to reliability, maintainability, and scalability
- Experience building or configuring AI-enabled skills, tooling, workflows, or agents that improve your own development workflow and contribute to better team development practices
- You have direct experience with technologies relevant to our technical stack, which currently includes: Python, PostgreSQL, AWS
