Lead Access Specialist

Cal Poly

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of the Disability Resource Center, the Remote Lead Access Specialist is responsible for: Independently evaluating student needs, advising on disability management, and determining appropriate accommodations for students with temporary and permanent disabilities ensuring compliance with CSU policy, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504. Assisting in the development of creative, cross-department accessibility solutions and communicating program and student needs through regular coordination with faculty, staff, students, and community organizations. Serving as a liaison between the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo campus and the Cal Poly Solano campus disability services offices, ensuring coordinated support for students.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to address student concerns and university issues in a proactive manner with the ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries from students and separate personal and student issues.
  • General knowledge or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of disability-related laws and the provision of services to students with disabilities (e.g., Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, ADA, FHA, IDEA 2004 and CSU 1111).
  • Ability to use learning outcome assessment to evaluate and improve program offerings.
  • Demonstrated experience in using a high degree of tact and persuasiveness to maintain effective and cooperative relationships while working with students with varied disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability in creating viable alternative solutions to program-wide problems, which may involve changes in guidelines or policies.
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution.
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
  • A master’s degree in counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
  • Salary and Benefits
  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $66,528 - $77,951 Per Year
  • Classification Range: $66,480 - $94,716 Per Year
