Role Description Paralegal Specialist II shall provide advanced litigation support and claims analysis to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Public Safety Officers' Benefits (PSOB) Program. Supports Government personnel by reviewing evidence, analyzing legal and factual issues, preparing documentation, supporting appeals, and assisting in the administration of federal public safety officer benefit claims. - Review assigned claims and identify issues of fact and law. - Analyze supporting documentation and case evidence. - Meet with Government personnel to discuss assigned claims. - Capture, track, and organize program metrics and case information. - Support processing of Hearing Officer and BJA Director appeals. - Prepare documents supporting Public Safety Officers' Educational Assistance (PSOEA) claims. - Request, review, and track required claim documentation. - Draft correspondence and supporting case documents for Government review. - Maintain accurate case records within the PSOB 2.0 Portal. - Perform general reviews of new claim submissions. - Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications - Associate's Degree or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree preferred. - Minimum three (3) years of benefits/claims experience or four (4) years of paralegal experience. - Experience preparing legal or administrative documents. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook. - Strong organizational and analytical skills. - Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust (Minimum Background Investigation). - Must be a U.S. citizen. Requirements - Knowledge of legal research and document review practices. - Ability to analyze complex documentation and identify issues. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Excellent organizational and recordkeeping abilities. - Ability to manage multiple priorities. - Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. - Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
