Network Engineer II

Seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support large-scale network modernization programs through upgrade, design and deployment planning. In this role, you will develop site-specific upgrade designs, migration strategies, and implementation-ready documentation to enable accurate platform transitions, improve reliability, and extend hardware lifecycle support across LAN/WAN environments. This is a remote position requiring strong cross-functional collaboration and disciplined documentation practices. Lead network infrastructure planning and upgrade design for Verizon’s modernization initiatives. Produce detailed upgrade design packages, including rack space and power requirements, Layer 1 (physical) considerations, installation documentation, and Visio diagrams. Develop site-specific implementation plans for network device replacements and platform migrations, ensuring alignment to standards and deployment readiness. Create chassis and component migration strategies to improve scalability, throughput, and long-term capacity planning. Interpret technical documentation and specifications to validate compatibility, requirements, and implementation approach. Maintain documentation quality and consistency by following Verizon established diagramming and documentation standards. Partner with engineering, operations, deployment teams, and vendors to coordinate deliverables and drive successful execution.
Job Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in network infrastructure planning, upgrade design, and deployment planning for LAN/WAN environments.
- Working knowledge of Cisco and Juniper network technologies and common monitoring/visibility platforms.
- Strong understanding of Layer 1 (physical) infrastructure constraints including rack layout, power, cabling, and installation requirements.
- Proficiency in documentation and diagramming tools (e.g., Visio) and adherence to formal documentation standards.
- Proven ability to read and interpret technical documentation, specifications, and vendor implementation guides.
- Experience applying high availability and redundancy design principles.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
