Director, State Election Protection Program
Common Cause
• Lead our 2026 election protection field programs in Georgia and Wisconsin • Lead the development and execution of election protection plans in alignment with our strategy for the November election for our teams in Georgia and Wisconsin • As needed, lead state coalition meetings and working groups to drive our strategy forward • Act as a spokesperson for Common Cause, including representing the organization in coalition spaces, speaking to the media, participating in partner events, and other activities • Develop a strategy to regularly communicate our work to funders and coalitions • Build and maintain strong relationships with critical voting and election coalition(s) partners • Support in state coalitions • Act as a representative for Common Cause in national coalitions • Support cross-state learning between Election Protection Organizers and progress toward goals • Convene and lead sessions for staff across the organization on cross-state learning and best practices • With states Vice Presidents and the Election Protection team, monitor and assess the effectiveness of state programs to ensure we reach our goals • Create reports for coalition partners and funders • Manage election protection organizers in Georgia and Wisconsin: set goals in partnership with state teams and state Vice Presidents, and coach Election Protection organizers as needed toward their goals • Promote collaboration between state teams and other teams across the organization, ensuring coordination and alignment on shared work and priorities • Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- Experience managing coalitions or groups that represent stakeholders with diverse interests to achieve a goal
- Demonstrated knowledge of the unique aspects of our national political dynamic as well as knowledge of funders and decision-makers at the national level, with a preference for candidates who have existing relationships with these people and organizations and/or for candidates with knowledge of the political dynamics or decision-makers in either Georgia or Wisconsin
- Experience leading successful local- or state-level public advocacy campaigns and organizing related to democracy, elections, voting rights and civil rights
- Have managed and developed a team; set strategic direction for a team, and built a unified approach to achieve goals
- A track record of leading organization-wide change initiatives
- Ideally you have experience with a state legislative process (policy research and analysis, legislative drafting, legislative advocacy)
- Ability to travel 4-5 times per month to Georgia, Wisconsin, Washington DC, as well as potentially other locations
- Willing to have a social media presence on behalf of Common Cause, including being tagged on posts and creating content on behalf of the organization (as needed, Common Cause will provide accounts for staff members to use)
- Per our nonpartisan policy, Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected office (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party

Role Description The Program Controller participates in the planning, tracking, analysis, and reporting on multiple projects of varying contract type, size, complexity, and level of risk. Role Description This position requires an active Public Trust clearance. - Perform data acquisition, validation, analysis, and reporting of key areas company wide. - Develop, test, and implement processes to automate analysis and risk identification. - Leverage technology to identify areas for process efficiency improvements while providing insights and recommendations.
