Job Description
Senior Motion Designer
Academy
• Define and evolve Superhuman’s motion design language — spanning UI micro-interactions, onboarding flows, feature introductions, loading states, and brand moments across product and marketing. • Design, prototype, and deliver high-fidelity micro-interactions and transitions that communicate state, guide attention, and make our product feel alive. • Actively use AI-powered motion tools — including generative video, creative AI and LLM-assisted workflows as a core part of how you concept, iterate, and produce. • Build and maintain motion guidelines, principles, and a shared library of reusable animation components that help other designers and engineers implement motion consistently. • Partner with engineering to ensure animations are implemented accurately and performantly in production, with a clear understanding of Lottie, CSS animations, and React-based animation libraries. • Explore speculative motion concepts that push forward what Superhuman’s product could feel like — using prototypes to communicate ideas before they’re built. • Mentor other designers on motion craft and help build a culture where animation is thoughtfully and consistently applied.
Job Requirements
- Have 6+ years of motion design experience and an outstanding portfolio that demonstrates genuine mastery in UI/product animation and brand storytelling.
- Are expert-level in After Effects and have real experience with at least two prototyping/motion tools: Rive, Principle, Framer, Runway or Weave.
- Have strong Figma fluency, including Figma Motion, Smart Animate, and interactive component prototyping, and are comfortable navigating complex file structures.
- Understand how animations are implemented in code (Lottie, CSS, React Spring) and can work closely with engineers to close the gap between design intent and production reality.
- Have exceptional taste in timing, rhythm, easing, and the emotional quality of motion. You feel the difference between a great animation and a good one.
- Communicate your decisions with clarity and confidence. You can walk a non-designer through why a transition works and is on brand, or why it isn’t.
- Nice to Have:
- 3D motion or node-based motion experience in Cinema 4D, Blender, Spline, or Houdini.
- Background in interaction design or UX prototyping in addition to motion.
- Experience building AI-assisted motion workflows or custom pipelines.
