Job Description

Front-End WordPress Developer

Combine Global Recruitment

Role Description This is a hands-on, production-focused front-end role, with server-side PHP work when needed - going beyond simple site builds and UI components. You'll work in WordPress day-to-day, handling front-end changes across multiple client websites and stepping into theme edits and CSS customizations when needed. Most of the work lives in WordPress, primarily on client sites using Elementor (and similar page builders such as Divi or Beaver Builder), with occasional front-end support on other platforms. You should be efficient inside page builders, but also know when to solve a problem with custom CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and/or PHP instead of forcing everything through the builder UI. The best fit is someone who can take a ticket, ask smart clarifying questions, make the change cleanly, test their own work, and move on to the next client task without a lot of hand-holding - comfortable jumping between several websites in the same week while maintaining quality under normal agency deadlines. What You'll Do - Ongoing website updates and maintenance across multiple client sites - Landing page builds, responsive fixes, and styling cleanup - Troubleshooting builder issues and inconsistent builder output - Theme edits and CSS customizations - Database optimization - Third-party platform integrations (HubSpot, Mailchimp) - Occasional front-end support on other platforms (e.g., Shopify, Craft CMS) - Thorough documentation of workflows and fixes, and periodic contributions to the internal knowledge base Qualifications - Strong WordPress front-end experience on live client websites - Solid HTML and CSS, including responsive layout fixes - Practical JavaScript for front-end behavior and debugging - PHP server-side logic for refining or customizing functions - Plugin development understanding (e.g., resolving conflicts) - General understanding of DNS records (A, AAAA, CNAME, etc.), propagation, and basic proxy/CDN tools (e.g., Cloudflare) for site migrations and traffic routing - Understanding of website migration from host to host - Familiarity with server environments (WP Engine, WPMUDEV, cPanel) - Strong knowledge of staging workflow and deployment best practices - Hands-on experience with page builders (Elementor, Divi, WP Bakery, Beaver Builder) - Ability to troubleshoot layout issues, spacing problems, responsive/mobile breakpoints, and inconsistent builder output - 2–4 years of relevant experience (mid-level) - Clear written English and dependable communication during overlapping U.S. business hours Nice to Have - Shopify theme editing & customization - Git-based versioning workflows - AWS console and CLI - WooCommerce / eCommerce solutions - Performance optimization - Headless site build structures - Familiarity with tools like ClickUp, Slack, Missive, Google Workspace, and Figma
