Role Description As the Director of Technical Publications, you will lead the strategy, creation, and delivery of Corelight's product documentation to ensure it is accurate, highly discoverable, and accessible. You will directly manage and grow our team of technical writers, optimize our publishing workflows, and incorporate modern AI tools to improve efficiency and self-service search. Partnering closely across Engineering, Product Management, and Customer Support, you will treat documentation as a core product component that simplifies onboarding and helps our enterprise and government customers defend their networks with clarity. Specific Responsibilities: - Drive Content Strategy: Define and execute the documentation roadmap to support product success, feature releases, and customer onboarding. - Lead and Mentor the Team: Recruit, manage, and develop a distributed team of technical writers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. - Own the Documentation Lifecycle: Oversee end-to-end publishing workflows, from planning and drafting through cross-functional review, release, and ongoing maintenance. - Maintain Content Standards: Establish and enforce unified style guides, information architecture standards, and content governance rules across all product lines. - Pioneer AI Workflows: Integrate modern AI-assisted engineering and writing tools into the authoring pipeline to optimize content creation, metadata tagging, and customer search experiences. - Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with Engineering, Product Management, and Support teams to ensure content accuracy and keep documentation in sync with release schedules. - Track Operational Metrics: Define and report on key metrics for documentation quality, text coverage, delivery timeliness, and support-ticket deflection. - Manage Operations: Direct the department budget, handle tool/platform vendor relationships, and manage long-term headcount planning. Qualifications - Professional Experience: 10+ years in technical publications or documentation engineering, including 5+ years of direct people management experience. - Industry Background: Proven experience managing documentation strategies for high-growth enterprise software, SaaS, cloud, or cybersecurity platforms. - Modern Workflows: Direct experience scaling documentation processes using docs-as-code principles and Git-based authoring workflows. - Education: Bachelor's degree in a technical field, English, Communications, or equivalent practical enterprise experience. Requirements - Information Architecture: Strong grasp of structural layout, documentation mapping, and taxonomy design for complex technical software. - Docs-as-Code Toolchains: Fluency with Git version control, markup languages (Markdown, reStructuredText), and static site generators. - AI Tool Integration: Understanding of how to use artificial intelligence to accelerate content drafting, editing, and automated data search workflows. - Multi-Platform Deployment: Familiarity with documenting software across varied delivery models, including hardware appliances, cloud environments, and SaaS formats. - Agile Frameworks: Experience managing documentation backlogs, sprints, and release cycles using project management tools like Jira. - Data-Driven Analysis: Ability to analyze user content engagement and search metrics to continuously improve information discoverability. - Technical Domains: Foundational understanding of network infrastructure, cloud environments, or cybersecurity concepts. - Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong relationship-building skills to negotiate timelines and align priorities with senior Product and Engineering stakeholders. - People Leadership: Experience coaching senior individual contributors, setting clear delivery expectations, and supporting career growth. - User Advocacy: A clear focus on the customer experience, with a passion for breaking down complex systems into clear, intuitive text.
