Role Description As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you will play a key role in advancing HARMAN Automotive’s transformation toward a modern software development model. You will contribute to the design and implementation of a scalable DevOps ecosystem that supports Android-based digital cockpit systems, with a strong emphasis on Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) practices aligned with Agile methodologies. In this role, you will apply your expertise in Android development environments and modern DevOps tooling to architect and maintain CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes-based application platforms. You will collaborate closely with embedded engineers, system architects, QA teams, and other stakeholders to support various stages of the software delivery lifecycle. Your work will directly support the company’s goals of enhancing software quality, reducing time-to-market, and meeting rigorous automotive safety and cybersecurity standards. You will report to the Engineering Manager and help shape a robust DevOps infrastructure that scales across global programs. What You Will Do - Lead the design and development of scalable CI/CD pipelines to support Android software development, including AOSP, HAL, framework layers, and applications. - Act as the point person for integrating automated testing, static analysis, and continuous validation into CI/CD workflows, enabling rapid feedback loops across globally distributed engineering teams. - Continuously partner with embedded software, QA, and platform teams to ensure efficient and reliable software builds and deployments across multiple products and hardware platforms. - Guide optimization of Android build performance by profiling and enhancing build systems (Soong, Ninja, Gradle) to reduce compile times and improve overall development efficiency. - Actively contribute to improving CI throughput by implementing intelligent caching strategies such as Gradle Build Cache, Goma, ccache, and remote caching tools. - Lead the development and deployment of internal DevOps microservices (e.g., logging, artifact hosting, monitoring) within a Kubernetes environment using Helm, Kustomize, and GitOps workflows. - Support the establishment of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Terraform, Ansible, and Docker to manage reproducible CI/CD environments both on-premises and in the cloud. - Drive monitoring and observability initiatives for CI systems using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack to ensure reliability and track key metrics like build times and test coverage. - Ensure DevOps processes align with automotive safety and compliance standards (ASPICE, ISO 26262, ISO 21434), including secure build signing, OTA packaging, and traceable release management. - Serve as a technical mentor and advocate for DevOps best practices, leading efforts to scale DevOps solutions across multiple Android-based digital cockpit programs. Qualifications - A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field. - 10+ years of experience in DevOps, CI/CD, or embedded software build environments, with a strong focus on Android (AOSP) platforms. - A thorough understanding of Android build systems, including Soong, Ninja, and Gradle, and how they integrate within embedded development pipelines. - Demonstrable knowledge of scripting and automation using Python, Bash, Groovy, or similar languages to streamline development and deployment processes. - Proven expertise in containerization and orchestration using Kubernetes (AKS, EKS, GKE, or on-prem), along with Docker, Helm, and GitOps workflows. - Proficiency with key DevOps tools and platforms such as Jenkins, GitHub, Git/Gerrit, ArgoCD, Terraform, Ansible, Prometheus, and Grafana. - Experience implementing and optimizing caching mechanisms with tools like Gradle Build Cache, Goma, Bazel, and ccache to improve CI/CD efficiency. - Well-versed in automotive compliance standards, including ASPICE, ISO 26262, and ISO 21434, particularly as they relate to software development and release processes. - Solid experience with Linux-based development environments (e.g., Ubuntu on AWS) and cloud-native CI/CD toolchains. - A strong understanding of Git workflows and build tools such as Ant, Gradle, and languages including Python, Perl, and Java. - Familiarity with a range of CI/CD systems, such as Jenkins, Bamboo, and Zuul, and cloud infrastructure platforms, especially AWS. - Methodical knowledge of product life cycle management and quality assurance processes in complex engineering environments. - A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a proven ability to drive projects forward in high-pressure settings. - Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate technical topics for both engineering and business stakeholders. Bonus Points if You Have - A proven track record of implementing and optimizing build caching strategies to significantly improve CI/CD efficiency and reduce build times. - Experience developing and deploying containerized applications in production environments using Kubernetes, including Helm charts, GitOps workflows, and service monitoring. - Demonstrated experience in architecture design and tools development for large-scale DevOps systems, serving as a technical lead driving cross-functional initiatives. - Familiarity with Android Automotive domains such as in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), digital instrument clusters, and telematics systems, particularly in the context of embedded software development. What Makes You Eligible - Fluent in technical and commercial English, with the flexibility to travel occasionally as required. What We Offer - Flexible work environment, allowing for full-time remote work globally for positions that can be performed outside a HARMAN or customer location. - Access to employee discounts on world-class Harman and Samsung products (JBL, HARMAN Kardon, AKG, etc.). - Extensive training opportunities through our own HARMAN University. - Competitive wellness benefits. - Tuition reimbursement. - “Be Brilliant” employee recognition and rewards program. - An inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages professional and personal development.
