Mechanical Design Engineer – HVAC Systems

• Drive system concepts and partitioning • Translate market and customer needs into system-level requirements with validation traceability • Execute early trade-off analyses (cost, efficiency, volume, schedule) • Lead technical discovery, drive performance/cost/schedule feasibility studies and present trade-offs and recommendations to both external and internal stakeholders • Align architecture concepts and tradeoffs with customer and Jabil executives/stakeholders • Ensure designs address applicable ASHRAE requirements and Handbook guidance • Architect for product safety compliance for heat pumps/AC (example: UL/IEC 60335-2-40) • Guide component selections (compressors, heat exchangers, fans, pumps, valves, sensors) and ensure reliability, serviceability, and lifecycle considerations
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics or other similar related discipline is required
- Master’s degree in a related discipline is a plus
- At least 12 years of experience in HVAC product/system design (commercial/industrial) or other combination of education and experience
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in systems architecture or platform leadership with proven front-end design ownership
- Supervisor or leadership skills is preferred
- Knowledge of ASHRAE (55/62.1/90.1/15) and UL/IEC 60335-2-40 certification/compliance
- ASHRAE Membership/certification is a plus
- Strong knowledge of different HVAC topologies (heat pumps, chillers, AHUs, VRF, hydronics), refrigerants, thermodynamics and acoustics
- Familiarity with relevant simulation tools (MATLAB-Simulink, EnergyPlus) or CFD/FEA tools (ANSYS Fluent) is a plus
- Comfortable coordinating across time zones and cultures
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to about 25%.

• A Design Engineer I performs economical engineering design for precast products to meet all structural and constructability requirements. • Review contract documents to understand scope and direction of assigned projects. • Develop efficient design based upon industry standards as well as Fabcon design and detailing standards. • Perform reviews of Fabcon shop drawings for technical accuracy and work with drafters and higher-level engineers to finalize drawings for customer submittal. • Assist production checkers to ensure on-time delivery of production drawings to the plant. • Assist project managers and field personnel with issues encountered on site. • Provide efficient field fix designs utilizing available resources to mitigate delays in construction. • Complete work in a timely manner to assist in workflow to internal and external customers and maintain schedule requirements. • When assistance is required, reach out to supervisor, mentor, and other Design Engineers for collaboration/support.
