Senior Legal Assistant
The Hartford
• Utilize appropriate software to prepare timely, e-file and serve (as appropriate) correspondence, briefs, motions, pleadings, discovery, deposition notices, and other documents required by the New York court system • Maintain attorney calendars based on Court notifications and scheduled depositions • Assist in trial preparation • Review electronic and scanned mail daily • Maintain electronic legal files • Process invoices for payment • Process HIPPA-compliant authorizations and follow-up on medical records requests • Provide professional communication in all interactions with clients, opposing counsel, attorneys, teammates, claim partners and court personnel • Provide cross-coverage for team members, ensuring continuity of operations during absences and peak workloads
Job Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a legal assistant
- Strong working knowledge of the New York court systems and processes
- Tort experience in personal injury work is strongly preferred
- Trial preparation experience is a plus
- Demonstrated experience in a high-volume litigation environment, including familiarity with document production, discovery preparation, Outlook calendar management, and data maintenance
- Strong multi-tasking, organizational, and time management skills
- Proficiency with case management software
- Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Teams, and PowerPoint)
- Ability to meet productivity targets in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills, particularly in prioritizing work activities for multiple attorneys
- Ability to manipulate electronic documents such as TIF, PDF, and JPG formats.
