Director, Strategy and Integration
NPR
• Ensure the CDO is briefed and prepared for all speaking engagements, presentations, and internal/external communications. • Anticipate the needs of the CEO, CDO, and other leaders in donor-facing roles and proactively prepare materials, strategies, and follow-through plans. • Coordinate closely with the CDO to help the CEO integrate donor strategy into the executive’s overall calendar and institutional priorities. • Act as the lead for high-stakes, time-sensitive initiatives assigned by the CDO, providing dedicated stewardship and project management for priority organizational goals. • Serve as a cross-departmental coordinator on behalf of the CDO to ensure consistency and alignment across the Development Division. • Drive internal collaboration by managing departmental agendas, overseeing task forces, and leading cross-team initiatives to ensure alignment with organizational goals. • Manage budget activities across all Development departments in coordination with Finance and Operations. • Collaborate with Development leaders, including Operations and Fundraising staff, to ensure coordinated divisional fundraising efforts. • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of division-wide human resources projects like reviews, trainings, and professional development opportunities. • Work closely with CDO to identify professional development opportunities and craft the budget to support them. • Direct and mentor the Executive Assistant and the Manager of Foundation Operations; provide strategic oversight to ensure administrative and operational excellence across the department. • Work closely with CDO on managing hiring processes and working closely with the People Team to fill departmental roles. • Spearhead team-wide culture and engagement initiatives, including talent recognition and professional celebrations. Serve as the primary Development liaison to the People Team to manage recruitment, hiring processes, and organizational role changes. • Develop and manage strategic plans that match NPR’s top donor prospects with engagement opportunities involving the CEO, CDO, VP, Editor in Chief, Foundation Chair, and other executives. • Prioritize and schedule donor meetings for NPR leadership, ensuring the highest-value opportunities are identified, prepared, and executed with clear objectives. • Oversee briefing and follow-up processes so that every donor interaction is purposeful, well-timed, and strengthens long-term relationships. • Manage the process of high-end correspondence for the CEO, CDO, and other senior executives, ensuring all donor communications are timely, strategic, polished, and relationship-building. • Oversee all Foundation and Trustee-related engagement, including the strategic planning and execution of board meetings, committee sessions, and high-level donor stewardship. • Align schedules and travel with the greatest revenue-producing potential to maximize the efficiency and impact of NPR executives’ time with donors.
Job Requirements
- 8-10 years of progressive experience in development/fundraising, nonprofit management, or a closely related field
- 3-5 years in a management role with direct reports
- Demonstrated experience working directly with C-suite executives and/or board members
- Ability to get things done: a master organizer and project planner who consistently looks ahead and anticipates needs before they arise.
- Experience managing budgets at the departmental or divisional level
- Strong project management track record with complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives
- Excellent writing/communication skills, particularly high-level correspondence and donor-facing materials
- Ability to handle ambiguity, complexity, and urgency under changing priorities/conditions
- Superior experience managing and leading people in complex environments
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet concurrent deadlines, organize time and priorities, and to do so in collaboration with diverse stakeholders
