Job Description
Associate Director, Retail Media
Mass Culture
Role Description The Associate Director, Retail Media owns strategy and client leadership across the full retail media landscape, with a long-term focus on platforms outside of Amazon: Walmart Connect, Target Roundel, Instacart Ads, DoorDash Ads, Kroger Precision Marketing, Gulp Media, and emerging networks. In the near term, as the department scales, this role will also carry meaningful Amazon Ads and DSP responsibility. Candidates must be genuinely versed in a variety of retail media platforms, including Amazon Advertising. You will be hands-on-keys. But strategy and client communication are the primary criteria for success. Administrative and operational tasks are supported by shared agency resources. Responsibilities - Strategy & Client Leadership - Own retail media strategy across the platform portfolio for clients, developing full-funnel plans tied to each client's business objectives, category dynamics, and margin profile. - Serve as the primary day-to-day client contact for retail media activity, leading calls, QBRs, and strategy presentations with confidence. - Partner with the Head of Retail Media on how retail media activity integrates with Amazon and overarching brand strategy. - Translate platform performance into clear business recommendations. Clients expect senior-level thinking, not platform recaps. - Campaign Execution (Hands-On-Keys) - Build, manage, and optimize campaigns directly within Walmart Connect, Roundel, Instacart Ads, DoorDash Ads, Kroger, Gulp, and other assigned platforms. - Support Amazon Ads and DSP campaign management as needed, working under the direction of the Head of Retail Media. - Execute audience targeting, bid strategy, creative trafficking, and budget pacing with precision and a clear line of sight to client KPIs. - Leverage platform-native first-party data and closed-loop attribution to drive optimization decisions and surface actionable insights. - Tools, Automation & AI - Leverage Pacvue and comparable automation platforms to manage campaign workflows, automate bidding, and surface performance insights at scale. - Incorporate AI tools into your day-to-day workflow to improve efficiency, identify patterns in performance data, and sharpen strategic recommendations. - Stay current on emerging retail media capabilities, platform betas, and analytical tools, and bring relevant innovations to clients proactively. - Performance & Reporting - Analyze cross-platform performance to identify trends, inefficiencies, and growth opportunities. - Design and run incrementality tests and A/B experiments to validate strategy and drive continuous improvement. - Contribute to new business pitches and client onboarding as a subject-matter expert across retail media platforms. Qualifications - 8+ years of hands-on retail media experience, with meaningful depth across at least three non-Amazon platforms (Walmart Connect, Roundel, Instacart Ads, Kroger, DoorDash Ads, or comparable networks). - Strong working knowledge of Amazon Advertising, including Sponsored Ads, DSP, and Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC). - Proven ability to lead client-facing strategy conversations and present recommendations to senior marketing stakeholders. - Hands-on proficiency with Pacvue or a comparable retail media automation and analytics platform. - Practical experience incorporating AI tools into analytical or strategic workflows. - Strong command of retail media measurement: closed-loop attribution, incrementality, share of voice, and ROAS. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect platform data to business outcomes. - Agency environment experience required. Nice to Have - Certifications in Walmart Connect, Instacart Ads, Roundel, or other retail media platforms. - Experience in CPG, kids/family, wellness, or other purpose-driven consumer categories. - Experience contributing to new business pitches or agency proposals. Company Description Mass Culture on Inclusion: We hire great people from a wide breadth of backgrounds, not only because it’s the right thing to do, but also because it makes our work, our company and our communities stronger. Mass Culture is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
