• Establish, maintain, and evolve electrical design standards, specifications, and approval criteria across the portfolio. • Serve as the primary technical reviewer and approver for electrical deliverables across all phase gates (DD, 30/60/90/IFC). • Define technical requirements for critical electrical equipment including UPS, generators, switchgear, and distribution systems. • Own the electrical Basis of Design (BoD) and ensure alignment across all active projects. • Review and approve consultant-produced packages ensuring compliance with internal standards and applicable codes (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, local codes). • Oversee and validate arc flash, short circuit, and coordination study approaches and outputs. • Identify technical risks related to availability, redundancy strategy, protection coordination, and constructability; drive mitigation plans. • Ensure cross-discipline integration (mechanical, controls, structural) is addressed through design review. • Support selection and performance management of electrical consultants, EORs, and key vendors. • Lead technical alignment workshops to ensure external partners meet Riot’s requirements. • Review submittals and shop drawings; support resolution of design conflicts through construction. • Provide commissioning acceptance criteria inputs and review support for electrical systems. • Drive lessons learned capture and standards updates across the portfolio. • Provide executive-ready summaries of key technical decisions, risks, and tradeoffs when required.

• Lead the design and development of airborne electronic products meeting size, weight, power, reliability, and cost requirements • Communicate with executive leadership on matters of significant importance • Support multiple programs concurrently and generate requirements documentation, design artifacts, verification and test plans • Collaborate with a cross-disciplinary product development team

Role Description WSP is currently initiating a search for a Principal Protection Electrical Engineer with a Protective Relaying emphasis for our Orlando, FL office. Candidates for our Augusta, ME; Freeport, ME; Syracuse, NY; Charlotte, NC; Overland Park, KS; and Richmond, VA offices will also be considered. The ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location will be considered. The successful applicant will have a direct role in the design, engineering, and studies of protection systems for equipment on the bulk power system, including: - Protection of substations - Transmission lines - Generators - Renewables - Distribution systems Your Impact: - Extensive knowledge, proven experience, and advanced proficiency with most of the items listed below. - Drive new business, make strategic decisions, and foster innovation across the firm. - Protective Relaying: Symmetrical component analysis, protection philosophy development, relay settings, and integration with SCADA systems. - Protection Analyses: Electrical model development, short circuit, time-current coordination, arc flash, NERC compliance, and event analysis. - Team Leadership: Lead teams on client projects to meet the scope, schedule, and budget. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited). - 15+ years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer executing deliverables for Protective Relaying projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution at a utility or industrial scale. - Professional Engineering (PE) license (multi-state preferred). - Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. - Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Preferred Qualifications - Master’s Degree in Engineering. - Preference will be given to applicants with a proven history of completing similar projects in a consulting environment. - Preference may be given to engineers with commissioning and testing experience, or strong skills in protecting equipment at high voltages (69kV and higher). - Preference is also given to applicants with experience mentoring others and a willingness to do so. Compensation Expected Salary (Syracuse, NY): $177,800 - $337,800.
