Role Description We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Software Engineer I - Production Operations to join our remote-first engineering team. This role is ideal for early-career engineers who are passionate about building, optimizing, and maintaining high-performance production systems. You will work alongside DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Software Development teams to ensure the scalability, stability, and efficiency of our mission-critical applications. If you’re looking for a fast-paced, growth-focused environment where you can develop technical expertise, solve real-world problems, and make an impact, we want to hear from you! - Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production software systems for high availability, scalability, and performance. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams (DevOps, SRE, and Software Development) to ensure seamless system operations. - Develop automation scripts and tools to enhance system reliability, incident response, and operational efficiency. - Assist in the deployment, configuration, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) of software applications. - Analyze logs, metrics, and system performance data to proactively identify and resolve issues. - Ensure system security, compliance, and best practices in cloud environments. - Participate in an on-call rotation to support production systems and minimize downtime. - Stay up to date with emerging technologies, cloud infrastructure advancements, and industry best practices. Qualifications - Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). - Strong proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or other backend programming languages. - Experience with Linux-based environments and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible). - Basic knowledge of databases (SQL, NoSQL) and distributed systems. - Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a remote team environment. Preferred Qualifications - Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack). - Exposure to networking, load balancing, and cloud security principles. - Passion for automation, scripting, and optimizing production operations. Role Description At AAAS’s gold open access journal Science Advances, the Editorial Coordinator--Production assists the Advances production team in the processing individual manuscripts that comprise the journal each week in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The EC-Production will work in the journal’s online production system, reviewing author responses to queries and assessing additional queries regarding figures and supplementary materials. This may require daily interaction with external authors and editors answering questions, proofreading author corrections, and approving final files for publication.
