Role Description The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) is seeking a strategic, creative, and highly organized Communications Manager to support the organization's Financial Trader Health and Safety Initiative. This position will lead all communications efforts focused on emerging financial products, trading platforms, prediction markets, and the intersection of financial trading and gambling-related harm. This role will lead the development and implementation of consumer-facing initiatives designed to educate and increase public awareness, improve understanding of trading-related risks, promote informed decision-making, and encourage early help-seeking behaviors. The Communications Manager will create educational campaigns, digital content, and outreach strategies that translate complex financial, behavioral health, and public policy topics into clear, engaging, and actionable information for diverse audiences. In doing so, this role will help position NCPG as a national leader in consumer protection and harm prevention across evolving financial trading environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong public health communication and storytelling skills, experience managing behavior-change and awareness campaigns, and a demonstrated ability to create content that resonates with consumers across digital and out-of-home (OOH) channels. Experience working in the financial services and trading industry is a plus. Key Responsibilities - Public Health Education Strategy - Working with the Director of Strategy, develop and implement a comprehensive public health education strategy focused on emerging financial products, prediction markets, trading platforms, and gambling-related harm. - Identify opportunities to increase public awareness, improve financial and behavioral health literacy, and promote informed participation and decision-making. - Develop educational frameworks that translate research, data, and emerging trends into practical, consumer-friendly resources. - Ensure all educational initiatives align with NCPG’s mission, public health approach, and commitment to reducing gambling-related harm. - Public Awareness Campaigns - Lead the development and execution of consumer-facing awareness campaigns across digital, social media, earned media, and community-based channels. - Create educational materials including fact sheets, guides, toolkits, videos, infographics, articles, FAQs, webinars, presentations, and digital learning resources. - Develop campaigns that encourage early help-seeking, increase awareness of available resources, and reduce stigma associated with gambling-related harm. - Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to expand the reach and impact of educational initiatives. - Social Media & Digital Engagement - Lead social media campaigns focused on public awareness, consumer protection, and responsible participation messaging. - Create engaging, accessible, and evidence-informed content tailored to diverse audiences, including young adults, retail traders, sports bettors, families, and individuals seeking information about gambling-related harm. - Develop visual storytelling and digital content using Canva and other design platforms. - Monitor campaign performance and digital analytics; provide monthly reports on audience growth, engagement, and content effectiveness. - Research Translation & Emerging Trends - Monitor emerging developments related to prediction markets, retail trading, financial technologies, consumer behavior, and gambling-related harm. - Translate research findings, public health data, and policy developments into consumer-friendly educational content and resources. - Collaborate with NCPG staff, researchers, clinicians, and subject matter experts to ensure educational materials remain accurate, timely, and evidence-informed. - Internal Collaboration - Work cross-functionally with the Director of Public Relations, the Director of Strategy, and the broader NCPG team. - Support Board communications and help prepare materials for Board meetings and stakeholder updates. - Assist with crisis communications planning and rapid response efforts when necessary. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Communications, Health Education, Behavioral Science, Journalism, Marketing, Public Health, or related field preferred. - Minimum 5 years of experience in communications, public health education, health communications, prevention programming, consumer education, nonprofit communications, or a related field. - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. - Demonstrated experience developing educational campaigns and content for public audiences. - Experience translating complex topics into clear, practical, and accessible information. - Strong understanding of social media strategy, digital engagement, and analytics. - Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and evolving environment. - Experience with Canva, Constant Contact, LinkedIn campaigns, and project management systems such as Asana preferred. - Familiarity with gambling-related harm, addiction, prevention education, financial services, sports betting, prediction markets, behavioral health, or consumer protection issues is strongly preferred. Requirements - This position is supported through a two-year grant-funded initiative focused on advancing consumer education, public awareness, and harm prevention efforts related to emerging financial products, trading platforms, and gambling-related harm. - NCPG is committed to the long-term success of this work and will actively seek additional funding opportunities to sustain and expand these efforts. - Continuation of the position beyond the initial two-year period will be contingent upon the availability of funding and organizational needs. Work Environment - Remote position with periodic travel for conferences, stakeholder meetings, and Board meetings. - Some evening and weekend work may be required based on events. Location - This is a fully remote position. Candidates must be available to maintain a minimum of six hours of overlap with standard East Coast business hours to support collaboration with staff, partners, and stakeholders across the organization. Travel - Travel up to 20% is required. Candidates must be able to travel for NCPG’s annual conference (July), Board meetings (July & December), and other organizational events as needed, including a minimum of approximately two weeks per year.
