Role Description The Senior Engineering Manager, Innovations provides technical and organizational leadership for emerging initiatives that require close coordination across Product and Engineering. This role exists to strengthen management capacity within the Innovations organization, enabling the team to incubate and scale new technologies, including AI-driven capabilities and other complex initiatives, without overburdening mainline engineering teams. - Lead Innovation engineering initiatives from discovery through delivery, translating ambiguous opportunities into executable plans, clear ownership, and measurable outcomes. - Manage and develop direct-report engineers, including performance management, coaching, career development, and day-to-day support for assigned team members. - Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to shape cross-functional initiatives, align priorities, and create practical paths to deliver new capabilities across multiple engineering teams. - Unblock teams by identifying organizational, technical, and process barriers and driving collaborative solutions that accelerate delivery of net-new technologies. - Serve as a primary connection point between Innovation and distributed or acquired engineering teams, helping integrate efforts, clarify responsibilities, and improve operating cadence. - Drive organizational planning for the Innovation function, including resourcing, budget input, initiative prioritization, and realistic schedule development. - Provide technical program and project leadership by coordinating dependencies, monitoring progress, surfacing risks, and ensuring initiatives remain aligned to strategic goals. - Exceptional people leadership, organizational effectiveness, and cross-functional collaboration skills. - Strong technical foundation with the ability to quickly understand new technologies, assess tradeoffs, and guide teams through ambiguity. - Demonstrated technical project and program management experience, including dependency management, resource planning, and schedule development. - High emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust, alignment, and momentum across Product, Engineering, and distributed teams. - Humility. Qualifications - 12+ years of experience in software engineering, product engineering, or closely related technical roles with progressive growth in responsibility. - 4+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including direct people management responsibility for engineers. - 4+ years of experience leading cross-functional technical programs or initiatives that span multiple teams, systems, or organizational boundaries. - Demonstrated experience delivering ambiguous, net-new, or innovation-focused technical initiatives from concept through execution. - Experience partnering with Product and Engineering leadership on resource planning, prioritization, and roadmap or delivery planning. - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field. - Equivalent practical experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. - Relevant certifications in technical program management, Agile delivery, cloud platforms, or AI/ML are a plus, but not required. - AI, data science would be beneficial. - Cloud certificates such as AWS Solutions Architect Associate is a plus. - Web development experience (frontend or backend) would be a great plus.
