Stripe

Role Description Stripe's TOPS Legal team (Tech, Ops & Partnerships) is responsible for structuring and negotiating engagements with Stripe's global professional services providers, technology partners, and operational vendors. In this role, you'll be a subject matter expert and key advisor across a broad range of commercial real estate leasing, facilities, and operational professional services transactions that support Stripe's global footprint and operational needs. The ideal candidate is passionate about Stripe's mission of helping businesses grow and thrives in solving complex legal and business issues in collaboration with others. We're looking for someone who is a team player and willing to jump in on tasks of any size. Responsibilities include: - Draft, review, and negotiate commercial real estate leases, subleases, licenses to occupy, lease amendments, and ancillary real property agreements across global jurisdictions. - Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of operational professional services agreements, including facilities management, construction contracts, outsourced operations, financial services transactions, consulting, corporate security, and other operational vendor contracts. - Act as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders on legal, real estate, and operational vendor matters. - Partner closely with key client groups including Workplace, Real Estate, Finance, Corporate Security, and broader Operations teams. - Collaborate and build efficiencies with talented teams across Stripe, including Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Deal Management, Finance & Strategy, Tax, Security, and Third Party Risk Management. - Develop and implement continuous improvement of tools, processes, training, and playbooks to help manage high-volume workstreams and educate internal and external counsel and stakeholders. - Ensure Stripe's commercial relationships comply with applicable law, Stripe's data privacy and security policies, global privacy regulations, and global outsourced services guidelines. - Identify and evaluate business and legal risks across lease obligations, landlord/tenant matters, and operational service arrangements, and find creative ways to mitigate them while achieving business goals. - Effectively distill and explain complex issues to a variety of cross-functional stakeholders. - Manage competing priorities and workloads with skillful multitasking. - Spot issues, develop solutions, and counsel teams on issues relating to lease obligations, landlord/tenant matters, operational risk management, compliance, and vendor governance. - Manage global outside counsel relationships and act as a responsive point of escalation for outside counsel. Qualifications - 6–8+ years of relevant legal experience working at a law firm and/or in-house legal department supporting commercial real estate leasing and/or operational professional services contracting. - 3+ years of experience negotiating complex commercial leases or operational services agreements. - Deep working knowledge of commercial lease structures, landlord/tenant rights and obligations, and real estate transaction mechanics across one or more jurisdictions. - Proven ability to negotiate a broad range of operational professional services agreements (facilities management, outsourced services, staffing, consulting, and similar) with a practical, business-minded approach. - Sound and practical business judgment and the ability to make smart decisions in the face of ambiguity and imperfect information. - Ability to effectively prioritize and advance multiple deals happening simultaneously, often on tight deadlines. - A clear and concise communicator (in written and verbal form), who can distill the key risks and explain complex, nuanced issues in plain and simple terms. - Strong project management skills with attention to detail. - A strong sense of ownership where you proactively identify opportunities for our team and Stripe to improve. - Humility, genuine curiosity about an evolving industry, and a team-first attitude — with a terrific sense of humor. Requirements - History of advising high-growth companies on their real estate or operational expansion. - Experience managing a global or multi-jurisdiction commercial lease portfolio. - Experience working closely with a procurement, real estate, or facilities function. - Experience negotiating enterprise-level outsourced services or managed services agreements. - Familiarity with financial services, fintech, or technology company environments.

We're looking for a talented Commercial Counsel to join our Commercial Legal team focused on our US Public Sector customer base! In this role, you will work with internal business partners (like Sales and Trust) and other Legal team members to review and respond to requests from current and prospective US public sector customers (in federal, state and local governments, and education). This is a great opportunity to join a growing legal team and support strategic projects and transactions for Atlassian. This is a remote position and will liaise directly with Sales team and customers based in the United States. Working at Atlassian Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. In this role, you'll get to: - Join a small (but mighty!) team building the framework to support our US Public Sector cloud business. - Provide pragmatic, business-minded guidance on customer requests and contract-related issues for SLED and Federal Civilian Sales, including statutory and regulatory requests from public sector customers. - Analyze and negotiate reseller sales agreements including contract vehicles and flowdown terms. - Review customer requests and work with internal business partners to fulfill such requests in accordance with company processes and policies; seek and obtain internal approvals for modifications to standard terms or processes as needed. - Draft terms and liaise with Product, Engineering, and Compliance teams to support the continued development of Atlassian Government Cloud. - Negotiate contracts from drafting to execution, including contract generation, redlining, exhibit coordination, approval escalation, record management and post-execution support and compliance. More about you: - You take ownership, roll up your sleeves, and get things done. - You work collaboratively and develop positive relationships with business stakeholders to strengthen the connection between our team and the business - with a sense of humor and resiliency, under tight deadlines, and while managing multiple priorities. - You can kindly and easily translate the alphabet soup of government procurement to counterparts who have less familiarity. - You enjoy getting deals done, while managing customer risk. - You effectively navigate a decentralized and complex organization spread around the globe. - You have a strong understanding of software technology and cloud services, associated business models, and technology industry trends, especially within the US public sector. - You think creatively beyond the "legal box" to generate possible solutions and options for the business, clearly articulating risk-based recommendations. At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. We follow consistent hiring practices and account for each candidate's skills, knowledge, and experience when setting base pay within the range. Please visit go.atlassian.com/payzones for more information on which locations are included in each of our geographic pay zones. However, please confirm the zone for your specific location with your recruiter. This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity. In The United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are: Zone A: $195,300 - $254,975 Zone B: $176,400 - $230,300 Zone C: $162,900 - $212,675 On your first day, we'll expect you to have: - 6+ years of public sector SaaS agreement negotiation experience, particularly with SLED and Federal Civilian customers. Experience supporting government cloud offerings is a plus! - FedRAMP compliance + contracting familiarity. - Knowledge of federal, state, and education procurement processes. Including understanding contract vehicles (GSA, CA SLP, NY OGS, etc.). - Experience developing and maintaining efficient processes for a busy commercial legal team. - Passion for understanding our customers, products, culture, and business model. - Excellent business judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work flexibly with a variety of teams. - Ability to handle competing priorities in a dynamic environment. - Willingness to handle new areas of responsibility. - Ability to exercise sound judgment on key decisions in the contracts administration function, including recognizing circumstances that require escalation.
