Stord
• Own the design, development, and operational health of shared services including authentication/authorization, eventing/messaging, API gateways, and shared libraries • Establish clear service contracts, SLOs, and integration patterns that product teams can rely on • Maintain and improve service documentation, onboarding guides, and self-service tooling for consuming teams • Translate architectural direction from the Principal Engineering Group into production-quality implementations • Build reference implementations that demonstrate how product teams should integrate with shared services • Identify and resolve technical debt in shared services that slows product team velocity • Write clean, well-tested, production-ready code—this is a hands-on building role • Contribute to the technical strategy for unifying Stord’s product suite into a composable marketplace of services
Job Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems
- Strong proficiency in at least one of: Elixir or TypeScript. Willingness and demonstrated ability to learn the other quickly
- Experience designing, building, and operating shared services or platform capabilities consumed by other engineering teams
- Track record of taking ownership of ambiguously-scoped technical problems and driving them to resolution
- Comfort working across multiple codebases and navigating unfamiliar systems
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems: service contracts, event-driven architectures, API design, and failure modes
- Clear technical communication—ability to write effective design documents and explain trade-offs to varied audience

Software Engineer

Role Description This is a hands-on role spanning application engineering and infrastructure ownership. You'll work across: - Platform services (Go, multi-service architecture) - Infrastructure (AWS, Terraform, Ansible, deployments, observability) - Occasional agent/Python work (FastAPI worker + eval/training tooling) You should be a strong self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity and can drive features end-to-end with minimal hand-holding. What You'll Do: - Own tickets and features from discovery through production rollout and follow-up. - Build and improve backend services across API, auth, chat, web/admin, integration, inference routing, and data services. - Design and operate AWS infrastructure across environments using Terraform and Ansible. - Manage and improve release workflows (container builds, ECS deployments, blue/green patterns, rollback readiness). - Strengthen reliability through monitoring, alerting, tracing, and incident response. - Debug cross-service and infra issues quickly, with clear communication during incidents. - Partner with product, data, and ML teams to deliver complete, production-ready functionality. - Contribute to light Python/agent work when needed (FastAPI worker behavior, cache/messaging integration, eval/training workflows). Qualifications - 5+ years in software/platform/infrastructure engineering in production environments. - Strong backend experience in Go. - Strong production experience with AWS (ECS/Fargate, ALB, Route53, RDS, ECR, IAM, Secrets Manager, networking). - Strong Terraform experience; practical Ansible experience. - Proficiency with containerized development and deployment workflows (Docker, CI/CD, release automation). - Solid observability and operations experience (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry/Tempo, logging). - Experience with distributed systems and async messaging patterns (e.g., NATS, Redis). - Comfortable moving between app code and infrastructure code as part of the same feature. - Excellent execution skills: proactive, organized, pragmatic, and able to close loops. - Strong communication and collaboration across engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
