DevOps Engineer
Paymentology
Role Description At Paymentology, we’re redefining what’s possible in the payments space. Infrastructure Configuration - Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) to automate the deployment and management of infrastructure components. - Maintain and optimize cloud infrastructure to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance. - Manage version-controlled infrastructure configurations and ensure consistency across development, staging, and production environments. - Troubleshoot issues across the full technology stack including hardware, software, applications, and networking. - Perform system administration tasks such as server setup, configuration, and maintenance. - Implement and manage containerization and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes. - Implement and manage event streaming platforms such as Amazon MSK and/or Apache Kafka, including cluster configuration, topic and partition management, broker operations, access control, monitoring, scaling, and reliability engineering. - Apply AI-assisted tools to streamline routine engineering tasks, support technical planning and implementation, accelerate troubleshooting, and create clear instructions, prompts, and reusable skills/workflows that improve team productivity. CI/CD Pipeline Development - Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines that automate build, test, and deployment processes. - Enable seamless integration and delivery of code from development environments through to production. - Monitor and optimize CI/CD pipelines to remove bottlenecks and improve deployment efficiency. - Integrate version control systems with automation tools to enable continuous testing and deployment. Automation and Scripting - Develop scripts and automation tools to reduce manual tasks and increase operational efficiency. - Implement automated testing and deployment practices to ensure reliability and consistency. - Continuously identify repetitive processes and automate them to minimize human error. Monitoring and Maintenance - Implement monitoring and observability tools to ensure system reliability and performance. - Respond to incidents and service disruptions while minimizing downtime and business impact. - Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve production incidents and outages efficiently. Collaboration and Communication - Work closely with development, QA, and operations teams to support a smooth and efficient development lifecycle. - Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and shared ownership of system reliability. Security and Compliance - Implement security best practices throughout CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure management. - Ensure systems and processes comply with relevant industry standards and security requirements. Qualifications - 7+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering roles. - Strong proficiency in scripting and automation using Bash and Python. - Practical experience with AWS cloud services (e.g., EC2, S3, IAM, RDS, VPC, EKS, MSK). - Solid experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, particularly Terraform. - Hands-on experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting Kubernetes (K8s) clusters and workloads. - Hands-on experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting Amazon MSK and/or Apache Kafka clusters, including brokers, topics, partitions, consumer groups, replication, security configuration, monitoring, and performance issues. - Ability to effectively use AI-assisted tools for routine engineering tasks, implementation support, technical planning, troubleshooting, and the creation of clear instructions, prompts, and reusable skills/workflows. - Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices. - Proficiency with Git and version control best practices in collaborative environments. - Comfortable working in Linux/Unix environments; familiarity with Windows systems is a plus. - Basic understanding of programming concepts (e.g., Java or similar languages). - Understanding Agile development methodologies and team workflows. Professional Skills - Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities in distributed systems. - High attention to detail with solid organizational skills. - Continuous learning mindset with a focus on improving systems, automation, and processes. - Effective collaboration within distributed and cross-functional teams. - Clear written and verbal communication skills in English.
