Role Description The Director, Scientific Product will serve as a departmental product strategy leader, responsible for defining and executing product management for assigned scientific software products while leveraging deep domain expertise in life sciences and computational modeling. This role combines advanced scientific knowledge with product management excellence to drive product success without direct people management responsibilities. The role will serve as the product strategy owner for specific scientific products, working closely with cross-functional teams to translate complex scientific requirements into market-winning capabilities. This role requires exceptional scientific expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence across organizational boundaries to deliver products that advance drug development and scientific discovery. Job Responsibilities - Product Strategy & Roadmap Development - Define and execute product strategy for assigned scientific software products - Develop product roadmaps that balance scientific innovation with market demands - Translate complex scientific workflows into product requirements and features - Identify opportunities to expand product capabilities based on emerging scientific methods - Drive portfolio coherence across related scientific products - Establish product vision that aligns with regulatory and industry trends - Scientific Domain Leadership - Ensure products meet scientific rigor and validation requirements - Translate regulatory guidance (FDA, EMA) into product capabilities - Partner with Scientific R&D to incorporate cutting-edge methodologies - Guide technical trade-offs that impact scientific accuracy and usability - Represent products at scientific conferences and advisory boards - Customer & Market Intelligence - Conduct strategic engagements with pharmaceutical and biotech customers - Gather insights from key opinion leaders and scientific advisory boards - Analyze competitive landscape in scientific software and modeling tools - Synthesize customer feedback into actionable product improvements - Identify emerging trends in model-informed drug development - Build relationships with regulatory bodies and industry consortiums - Cross-Functional Partnership - Collaborate with engineering teams on technical feasibility and implementation - Partner with Product Enablement on customer success strategies - Work with Sales on competitive positioning and win strategies - Engage with Services teams to understand implementation patterns - Coordinate with Marketing on scientific messaging and thought leadership - Influence without authority across all organizational levels - Business Impact & Metrics - Define success metrics and track product performance - Develop pricing strategies that reflect scientific value - Support business case development for R&D investments - Monitor adoption and usage patterns to inform product decisions - Scientific Community Engagement - Build relationships with academic institutions and research organizations - Participate in scientific consortiums and working groups - Gather feedback from scientific user communities - Stay current with advances in computational modeling and simulation - Foster partnerships that enhance product credibility - Other duties as assigned Qualifications - 8+ years of experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industries - Understanding of drug development processes and regulatory requirements - Experience with model-informed drug development (MIDD) workflows - 5+ years of product management experience in scientific or technical software - Proven track record of successful product strategy and execution - Experience translating scientific requirements into product features - Understanding of SaaS and enterprise software business models - Ability to prioritize features based on scientific and business value - Exceptional ability to communicate complex scientific concepts - Experience presenting to diverse audiences from scientists to executives - Strong written communication for scientific and business contexts - Track record of building consensus across stakeholder groups - Understanding of life sciences software market dynamics - Experience with competitive analysis and positioning - Ability to develop business cases with ROI analysis - Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements Preferred Qualifications - Direct experience with biosimulation or modeling software platforms - Relationships with key opinion leaders - Experience with both industry and regulatory perspectives - Familiarity with cloud platforms and API architectures - Understanding of AI/ML applications in drug development - Basic programming skills (R, Python, MATLAB) - Knowledge of software validation in regulated environments - Experience with product launches in life sciences markets - Track record of driving adoption in academic and industry settings - International market experience - Product management certifications Education - Bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, bioengineering, or related field - Masters or PhD in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, bioengineering, or related field preferred
