Role Description We're hiring our first Forward Deployed Engineer to be the technical force behind how customers evaluate, adopt, and succeed with Xata. You'll partner with Sales across the deal cycle and then keep going past the handshake: - Lead technical discovery with developers, platform teams, and AI-native companies. - Design and run proof-of-value engagements that prove Xata against the customer's real data and real constraints. - Guide and execute database migrations onto Xata, using our open-source tooling (pgroll, pgstream). - Build demo environments, reference architectures, migration scripts, and integration patterns for branching, replication, and lifecycle management. - Be the technical voice in the deal cycle, partnering closely with Sales and handling hard technical objections. - Embed with customers and write code with them, focusing on outcomes over artifacts. - Close the loop with Product and Engineering, turning field signals into prioritized feedback. - Set the technical bar and build the function for the FDE team as we grow. Qualifications - Strong, hands-on engineer energized by customer interaction. - Generalist problem-solver with skills in full-stack, data plumbing, scripting, debugging, and infrastructure. - Deep credibility with engineers and comfort in databases, SQL, APIs, distributed systems, and developer workflows. - Ability to thrive in ambiguity and high ownership situations. - Bias to build and create solutions rather than waiting for requests. - Clear communication skills in writing and effective work in a remote, async environment. - Comfortable being the first in this role and building the function. Key responsibilities include: - Conduct material handling integration. - Programming using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI). - Create electrical drawings and schematics using AutoCAD. - Conduct concept and research, network design, panel design, ACAD layout, device troubleshooting, PLC/VLC programming, HMI tagging, on-site installation, debugging, and onsite commissioning. - Run simulations, electrical installations, and debugging programs. - Troubleshoot and modify electrical wiring, red line electrical schematics. - Create and update AutoCAD drawings to create as-installed packages. - Implement commission and document settings for system devices, including IP addresses, photo eye logic functions, and drive parameters. - Utilize Studio 5000 programming and PF525 programming. - Conduct full scope of controls project services. - Research and communicate information regarding suppliers, customers, and competition. - Develop processes to support process improvement.
