Role Description The NAACP Empowerment Programs, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for equal rights, seeks a Summer Intern, Opportunity, Race and Justice, who is dynamic and highly organized, effective, and articulate systems-thinker. This role embraces the 3Cs (coordination, cooperation, and collaboration) and is primarily responsible for leading a portfolio of strategic projects for the Center for Opportunity, Race and Justice including executing project plans, status reports, and deliverables. The NAACP Policy & Legislative Affairs (P&L) team advances the Association’s advocacy agenda to protect civil rights and promote equity. With the partnership of NAACP departments (Inclusive Economy, Environmental and Climate Justice, Health and Well-Being), state conferences, branches, and members, P&L identifies the Association’s core policy priorities and translates them into actionable advocacy strategies for policymakers. These efforts are carried out through an ongoing cycle of research, education, advocacy, and engagement that strengthens protections and advances progress for Black communities and other historically marginalized populations. - Contribute to the implementation of a strategic portfolio of work; - Establish and maintain processes for managing campaigns, initiatives, and projects; - Develop comprehensive project plans including scope, objectives and timelines; - Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure projects adhere to schedule and budget; - Ensure responsive and effective communication; - Develop resources, presentations, and other materials; - Manage and coordinate team, committee, and other meetings; - Draft reports, memoranda, briefs, and other written communications to various stakeholders; - Leverage appropriate tools to ensure efficiencies and quality of work; - Deliver high quality, timely work product; - Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director, Opportunity, Race & Justice or other designee. Qualifications - Ability to work full time for 37.5 hours per week from July 6, 2026 to August 30, 2026; - Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and have completed, at minimum, the first year of a master’s degree program; - Effective communication skills including exceptional written and verbal skills, excellent people skills; - Proficiency in MS Office Suite; - Demonstrated commitment to the NAACP’s mission; - Strong academic credentials. This stipend will be paid on a bi-weekly basis and is subject to applicable state, local, and federal taxes.
