Role Description Under the Chief Enterprise Operations Officer, this position is the key leader for the Consumer Lending Processing Department which includes processing, funding, servicing and operational processes for ancillary Insurance products related to direct consumer loan products (Auto, HELOC and Visa loans) within the entire Credit Union. This position will assist the Chief Enterprise Operations Officer to carry out the assigned responsibilities, provided that such action is consistent with cost-effective practices and is consistent with Regulations, and the Credit Union’s policy and procedures. This position provides leadership direction, administration, strategy development for staff, leadership, and organization related to consumer lending operations. Sets staff goals to meet organization’s objectives. Responsible for maintaining high level of employee productivity, internal and external member services, identifies and implements efficiency improvements and supports the credit union’s culture. Serves as a management escalation resource for any Consumer Lending Operations related issues. This position also builds, plans, directs, oversees and approves the compliance, processing, funding, and administration of the Credit Union’s consumer lending operations to foster a member centric environment that supports the achievement of the Credit Union’s strategic goals. As a member of the Credit Union’s Leadership team, this position supports the Credit Union’s strategic action plans and organizational goals and works with the management team to set staff operations goals to meet organization objectives. This position also requires identifying and reporting potential fraud in a timely manner. In addition, this position is responsible for hiring and training underwriting staff as well as ensuring that all training documentation is updated (compliance and legal etc.). Leads with an expectation of teamwork & collaboration with internal business partners across the organization. This position is also responsible for supporting increased consumer and HELOC loan volume, along with insurance product penetration. Establishes guidelines, procedures and standards in the development and implementation of products, services, and procedures in order to provide long term portfolio growth. Responsibilities - Oversees, leads, plans, directs and executes all aspects of the Consumer Lending Operations department’s subgroups: - Consumer Lending Processing/Funding - Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) Processing/Funding - Servicing and ancillary Insurance products related to direct consumer loan products - Responsible for providing support to the sales team in the production of consumer loans, and ensuring cross selling of products and services. - Oversees all aspects of Consumer Operational decisions for the Credit Union. - Responsible for and drives production within the subgroups of the Consumer Lending Operations Department as well as responsible for operational efficiencies. - Participates in the establishment of lending goals as well as financial goals for the Consumer Lending segment. - Communicates with Members and staff to sell loan products and ensure good member service. - Directly approves more complex loans and loan exceptions. - Assist members with loan requests, problem resolution and cross sells products and services. - Provides leadership and coaching to motivate and maximize the performance of Lending Operations Supervisor(s) and Lending Operations team. - Responsible for the selection, professional development, and performance evaluations of the lending operations team. - Establishes attainable consumer lending operational goals, which includes Visa product operational goals. - Coordinates and maintains solicitation methods and processes to increase consumer loan volumes. - Monitors individual as well as departmental progress toward such goals and develops reporting mechanisms to qualitatively assess staff performance and production volumes. - Submits reports to executive management and appropriate region/market heads pertaining to observations and conclusions relating to performance and production goals. - Establishes and responsible for maintenance of and oversees lending policies, procedures and goals for the consumer lending operations department. - Identifies potential business partners and negotiates agreements. - Coordinates and negotiates with product development, marketing and/or sales groups. - Manages all Consumer lending operations within the subgroups, and staff. - Focuses on core deliverables such as increasing brand awareness, bringing in new members, department budgeting, data analysis and driving new revenues by effectively challenging and motivating employees and a variety of other lending services duties. - Performs duties that support all consumer, Visa and HELOC lending programs, services and delivery methods. - Researches, approves and implements, along with marketing, loan campaigns to meet strategic goals accordingly to grow the business. - Develops product lines and researches new product offerings to meet Credit Unions goals. - Maintains various reporting mechanisms to qualitatively assess the quality of the operations staff; for Direct, Visa and HELOC lending. - Oversees the subgroups of Consumer Lending Operations personnel’s adherence to credit union policy and procedure and ensures accuracy related to data entry and lending documentation. - Prepare annual budget for the department, and monthly monitoring for variances. - Manage expenses and monthly invoices within established guidelines. - Active participant and contributor in key organizational committees. - Responsible for directing and organizing the activities associated with Loan Quality Control. - Reviews loans for quality, documentation, compliance with federal and state regulations and laws, as well as adherence to internal policies and procedures. - Responsible for maintenance of tracking system to ensure compliance requirements are met. - Maintains visibility and presence with out-of-state team members by traveling to each location a minimum of twice per year. - Responsible for the development and content of the organizational Consumer Lending training (Lending 101) as it relates to the origination, processing, and funding of consumer loans. - Responsible for organizational communication related to the various Consumer Lending Operations segments through Operational Bulletins, newsletters, emails, etc. - Represents the Credit Union in a positive and professional manner. - Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications - 5-7 years of Consumer Lending operations, inclusive of consumer and home equity loans underwriting, processing, and funding, with direct credit authority. - 2-3 years of collateral management experience. - A minimum of five years of management experience in a financial institution. - Advanced credit experience. - Ability to analyze and evaluate loan requests and make credit decisions. - Knowledge of budget process. - Demonstrated experience in financial principles and practices required. - Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to effectively interact with staff, members and all levels of management. - Business Acumen, Process Management, Negotiating, Conflict Management, Developing Direct Reports, Motivating Others, Sizing Up People. - Drives for Results: demonstrated ability to achieve business targets. Preferred Qualifications - Over 7 years of Consumer Lending operations, including consumer and home equity loans, with direct credit authority as well as servicing and ancillary insurance products related to direct consumer loan products. - Over five years of progressive management experience in a credit union, inclusive of retail sales and member-facing (branch) experience. - High level of credit experience. - The ability to analyze complex loan requests and understands and works proficiently with credit scoring, loan processing systems, and automated approval systems. - Ability to present to ELT management and Board of Directors. - Master’s Degree. Education - Knowledge at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or a related financial or business field is required or equivalent work experience.
