Principal 3D Environment Artist

PUBG Studios Madison

• Define the environment art direction for the project and establish and establish overall quality standards. • Collaborate with Level Design, Lighting and Technical Art to build environments suited to gameplay. • Lead the production and implementation of environment art assets. • Oversee the overall quality of environments including world building, composition, scale, and level readability. • Review work from team members and outsource artists and provide constructive feedback. • Improve production pipelines and workflows to ensure efficiency and consistency. • Build game environments with performance optimization in mind. • Define the visual direction and production approach for all environment art across the project and design the standards and workflows that enable the team to produce consistent results.

Job Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in game development or equivalent relevant experience, with at least 1 shipped game.
  • Portfolio showcasing photorealistic, high-quality environment art presented in-engine.
  • Portfolio showing use of composition, scale, form, and lighting.
  • Professional fluency in English and Korean.
  • Strong understanding of the full environment art production pipeline.
  • Hands on experience with environment art workflows in Unreal Engine or Unity-based engines.
  • Proficiency in major tools such as Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance, and Houdini.
  • Experience with modular environment production and level composition.
  • Experience leading a team or mentoring artists.
  • Experience owning environment art quality and direction and meeting deliverables on a past project.
  • Ability to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and deliver under deadlines.
  • Ability to work during Pacific Time zone business hours (10am-4pm) with regular ability to meet in the evenings for international collaboration.
  • Ability to travel internationally 1-3 times a year for business purposes.

Role Description We're looking for a Contract Lighting Artist to join the team. You'll be responsible for crafting the atmospheric, dread-soaked lighting that defines the experience. From flickering floors to pitch-black vents, you'll set the emotional tone of every space players enter — working closely with art direction, environment, and VFX teams to bring each area to life.
