Job Description

Software Product Owner

HRBaires

Role Description We are a small agency looking to find an experienced software Product Owner; someone that will be in charge of bringing our client’s vision, strategy, and roadmap to life. We are a creative bunch that works with “good people” clients (we’re past the stage of working with clients we dread), and we think of ourselves as being in the “good people” camp too :) Since we are an agency, having agency experience is a huge plus! This is because more often than not, our clients need to be educated on the WHY of what they truly want, so that we can focus on the HOW and ultimately WHAT it is that we help them build. That is why we obsessively focus on the business outcomes that we can drive for mission-driven clients vs. building things for the sake of building. - Sifting through ambiguous ideas - Going beyond the first right answer - Bridging the gap between client and engineers - Being a leader for the team Having experience working on software projects is a must. You don't have to be a developer (awesome if you have been), but need to be technically savvy enough to understand how web apps, mobile apps, and third-party services work. Many of our clients are not close to the tech… clearly explaining tech speak into normal human speak is a huge part :) Tools that we use in case you wanted to know: - Basecamp, ClickUp - Slack - GSuite (no one has MS Office, it is not allowed hehe) - Figma - Azure DevOps - Other tools that we might experiment with to become more efficient :) Qualifications - 2 years of relevant software Product Management experience, with a preference of 5+ years. - 3 years experience managing a software product roadmap from a “back of the napkin idea” all the way to future iterations (and everything in between). - Experience with user stories, creative thought process, conducting user interviews. - Experience with impact and user journey mapping. - A background in operations or customer success is a great plus (automatic if you worked in an agency environment before). Requirements - Experience working on multiple products in parallel (2 minimum) for extended periods of time. - At least 2 years of experience at a software agency. - At least 2 years of experience working for an Early-stage Software Startup if you have no experience working for a software agency. - A good sense of humor won't hurt! :) Clients are people too, and it is more fun to do things when we are all having fun :) - You have to be REALLY crazy organized and detail-oriented. - You are independent.... we want to solve big client problems vs. micromanage. - Super Strong English skills (native or bilingual). This is a customer-facing role. You will interact with end clients in English.

Do you thrive in high‑visibility, high‑pressure environments where your ability to organize, prioritize, and lead truly matters? If so, this role might be your next big move. About the Team This group is the backbone of the company’s data exchange ecosystem. They manage all inbound and outbound EDI and flat-file transactions, supporting critical functions such as claims adjudication, supplemental benefits, oncology management, and trading partner integrations. They partner closely with incident triage teams, ETL developers, EDI developers, DBAs, and business stakeholders across the entire organization. This is a high-impact, high-visibility space — the work they do touches nearly every corner of the company. About the Role We’re looking for a strategic, delivery-focused Product Owner. This is not a ticket‑pushing role — it’s a true ownership position where you’ll drive outcomes, shape priorities, and ensure the team is always working on the most valuable work. What You’ll Own - Prioritization, sprint planning, and delivery for all EDI-related work - A large backlog — organizing, sequencing, and refining it into a clear, actionable roadmap - Writing requirements and user stories that keep the team moving - Running Agile ceremonies (no Scrum Master currently in place) - Managing incidents, enhancements, platform stability work, and operational needs - Communicating effectively with stakeholders across the business, technical teams, and trading partners - Making tough prioritization calls and clearly explaining the “why” behind them - Maintaining a forward-looking view of upcoming sprints and delivery expectations What Success Looks Like - You understand the EDI platform well enough to know what matters, what’s urgent, and how to sequence work - You can articulate a clear vision for the next 1–3 sprints - You keep the team focused, aligned, and productive - You stay composed under pressure and bring order to chaos - You can translate complex technical realities into clear, audience-appropriate communication - You demonstrate true ownership — not just managing a board, but driving outcomes What You Bring - Proven Product Owner experience with strong delivery leadership - Healthcare + EDI experience — you understand the ecosystem you’re stepping into - Experience managing large, complex backlogs - Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile, story pointing, definition of ready/done, and capacity planning - Ability to lead without being a technical expert — you know how to ask the right questions - Exceptional communication skills tailored to developers, leadership, and business stakeholders - Ability to stay calm, organized, and effective in high-pressure environments - A strategic mindset paired with tactical execution skills If you’re energized by complex data ecosystems, cross‑functional collaboration, and meaningful impact in healthcare technology, we’d love to connect.
