Cloud Engineer III Location: Richmond, Virginia (Partial Remote) Job Description: Role Overview This role is focused on building out a newer cloud engineering team that is driving greenfield architecture and governance across multiple cloud platforms. As a Cloud Engineer III, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and governing infrastructure across GCP, AWS, and Azure. This is a senior-level, hands-on position ideal for someone who thrives in both architecture and execution and is excited to build foundational cloud capabilities. You will operate independently, leading initiatives end-to-end while helping define best practices and mentoring junior engineers. Key Responsibilities - Lead the end-to-end delivery of cloud infrastructure projects independently. - Design and implement scalable, resilient infrastructure solutions across multiple cloud platforms. - Build and maintain reusable Terraform modules and templates ("golden paths") for standardized environments. - Design and implement cloud governance frameworks, including policies and guardrails to establish secure and compliant cloud environments. - Act as a technical leader within the team, driving best practices and standards. - Mentor and support Level I and II Cloud Engineers. - Balance project-based work, such as building governance and automation, with operational support, including account provisioning and access requests. - Participate in an on-call rotation and act as a senior escalation point for critical incidents. Required Qualifications Experience: 4 to 6 years of cloud or infrastructure engineering experience is required. Technical Skills: - Proficient in Terraform, with the ability to build and deploy infrastructure independently. - Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP); 1-2 years of recent experience is acceptable with a broader cloud background. - Solid understanding of cloud networking fundamentals, including VPCs, subnets, routing, and public/private networking. - Experience designing resilient, highly available infrastructure. - Ability to work independently and lead projects with minimal oversight. - Experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers. Preferred Qualifications - Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS). - Exposure to Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms. - Experience with infrastructure automation beyond Terraform. - Knowledge of creating and implementing cloud governance policies and guardrails. - Experience building enterprise-scale infrastructure frameworks.
