Position: Underwriter, Credit Insurance Underwriting (levels 16 to 18) Job type: Permanent/contractual assignment Compensation details: Salaries are determined based on qualifications and experience, and generally fall within the range indicated below. EDC also offers a performance bonus. - Subscriber 16: from $74,297 to $99,063 - Subscriber 17: from $84,698 to $112,931 - Subscriber 18: from $96,557 to $128,743 This competition will fill several vacancies and create a pool of candidates for future underwriter positions at levels 16 to 18 over the next 12 months. Candidates will be assessed at the level that best corresponds to their experience and demonstrated skills. Team overview: EDC's credit insurance underwriting group is seeking dynamic and motivated professionals to help Canadian businesses grow and succeed internationally. Working closely with internal and external partners, successful candidates will facilitate international trade by helping our clients protect themselves against the risk of payment default by foreign companies. What you will do: - Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external clients, understand their needs, structure appropriate credit insurance coverage and provide ongoing expertise and quality customer service throughout the service delivery. - Assessing the creditworthiness of foreign companies, calculating the probability that a company will honor its obligations through intensive financial and credit analysis (liquidity analysis, operating and maturity schedules, profitability, cash flow management, third-party banking support and other factors such as competitiveness, market demand elasticity, industry trends). - Participate in the development of loss mitigation strategies when allocated credits become at risk. - Identify opportunities for improvement at the operational and program levels, and contribute to process improvements that streamline operations, improve program outcomes, and promote excellent execution. - Depending on your level, you will manage files of increasing complexity, autonomy and visibility – from independent management of standard to medium-complex work at level 16, to leading or advising on more complex or irregular transactions at level 17. At level 18, you will lead complex underwriting files from start to finish, providing expert advice to different teams and mentoring others by sharing your judgment, underwriting expertise and approach to decision-making. What we are looking for: - Undergraduate degree in business administration, accounting, finance, commerce or another relevant discipline (all levels). - Solid experience in reading and interpreting financial statements coupled with excellent financial analysis skills. - Valuable experience in carrying out increasingly complex commercial credit transactions in various industrial sectors and international markets. - Experience in structuring and negotiating more complex structures; ease in meeting with senior management and executives of exporting companies in order to assess their needs, identify the structures that meet these needs and present the outlines. - Proven experience of working effectively in changing, ambiguous, or matrix environments. - Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, collaborate with stakeholders, and provide effective service to internal and external clients. - Experience requirements vary depending on the level: - Underwriter 16: 2 to 5 years of relevant experience. You are able to independently manage cases of varying complexity, contribute to more complex analyses with guidance, and clearly communicate your recommendations. - Underwriter 17: Over 5 years of relevant experience. You possess solid underwriting experience, particularly in managing increasingly complex transactions, as well as the judgment and confidence necessary to conduct analyses, overcome difficulties, and defend your recommendations before a wider audience. - Underwriter 18: Over 7 years of relevant experience. You possess in-depth underwriting expertise and experience with complex, high-risk or high-visibility transactions, as well as the credibility and interpersonal skills required to influence the entire organization and support your colleagues. What will set you apart: - Experience in the international or commercial banking sector. - MBA or CFA or CPA professional designation. - Practical knowledge of the principles and practices of insurance underwriting - Proficiency in Excel; coding skills (an asset) - Proficiency in both official languages is a major asset.
