Job Description

Data & Analytics Product Owner - Finance

Huron

Role Description We're looking for a Data & Analytics Product Owner – Finance to join our Enterprise Data Intelligence Solutions (EDIS) team and drive analytics delivery across our Finance & Accounting organization. In this role, you'll own the finance-domain product backlog, lead agile delivery of BI, data science, and AI solutions spanning FP&A, GL, P2P, PSA, CLM, and more, and serve as the day-to-day bridge between Finance & Accounting stakeholders and our analytics development team. A key focus will be championing self-service BI and AI/BI adoption across F&A, leveraging a newly completed enterprise semantic model as the trusted data foundation. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of financial processes and ERP systems, proven Product Owner experience in a data or analytics environment, and the ability to navigate complex cross-functional stakeholder relationships. Familiarity with Workday Financials is a plus. The Data & Analytics Product Owner – Finance, Senior Associate leads agile delivery of finance-domain data products across Financial Planning & Analysis, General Ledger, Procure-to-Pay, Professional Services, Contract Lifecycle Management, and related functional areas. Working within a defined product vision and roadmap, this role translates finance business requirements into actionable delivery — owning the backlog, driving sprint execution, and championing self-service BI adoption across the Finance & Accounting organization. Responsibilities - Backlog Ownership & Delivery - Owns and maintains the finance-domain product backlog, ensuring stories are well-defined, prioritized, and ready for development. - Translates finance business requirements into user stories, features, and acceptance criteria. - Leads backlog refinement, sprint planning, and story elaboration sessions. - Makes day-to-day decisions on scope and priorities to maintain team velocity and deliver value. - Participates actively in daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. - Collaborates with Scrum Master to remove impediments and support team performance. - Finance Domain Expertise - Maintains deep understanding of transactional systems and financial data across the Finance domain. - Applies knowledge of financial processes — including close cycles, financial reporting, and ERP workflows — to inform requirements and delivery decisions. - Navigates the intersection of ERP reporting and BI analytics, understanding which solutions are owned by the analytics team, the Workday/ERP team, or require cross-functional collaboration. - Ensures finance data products adhere to relevant financial data standards and governance requirements. - Stakeholder Engagement - Acts as the primary day-to-day liaison between Finance & Accounting stakeholders and the analytics development team. - Conducts regular working sessions with F&A operational contacts to gather requirements, validate solutions, and provide delivery updates. - Facilitates alignment between technical capabilities and finance business needs. - Communicates clearly across technical and non-technical audiences. - Finance Data Product Development - Guides development of finance analytics solutions including dashboards, reports, and self-service BI tools spanning P2P, PSA, CLM, GL, Payroll, Tax, Treasury, Revenue, and FP&A. - Champions adoption of self-service Power BI capabilities within the Finance & Accounting organization, leveraging the enterprise semantic model as the trusted foundation. - Drives data literacy initiatives that enable finance stakeholders to independently access and interpret data. - Collaborates with data engineers and architects on data modeling and technical design. - Applies best practices in data visualization, financial reporting, and analytics. - Quality & Delivery - Defines acceptance criteria for features, including data quality rules and financial accuracy standards. - Reviews and accepts completed work to ensure alignment with requirements and quality standards. - Monitors product performance metrics and user adoption across finance stakeholders. - Contributes to continuous improvement in product features and team processes. Qualifications - 4-6 years of experience as a Product Owner, business analyst, or related role in data/analytics domains. - Strong understanding of financial processes and transactional systems across one or more finance domains (FP&A, P2P, GL, Revenue). - Familiarity with ERP platforms and how finance data flows between ERP systems and analytics layers. - Proven track record of delivering data products in an Agile/Scrum environment. - Experience with modern BI and analytics platforms (Power BI preferred; Tableau, Looker, or similar also valued). - Understanding of data engineering principles, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT processes. - Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills. - Ability to translate complex financial concepts into data requirements and vice versa. - Strong experience writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and maintaining product backlogs. - Demonstrated ability to make prioritization decisions and manage trade-offs. Preferred - Experience with Workday Financials (HCM, FIN, or PSA modules). - Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or similar agile certification. - SQL proficiency and hands-on experience querying financial datasets. - Familiarity with data governance, data quality frameworks, and financial data standards. - Understanding of SOX-relevant data workflows and financial controls. - Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). - Knowledge of dimensional modeling and semantic layer concepts. - Background in finance, accounting, or financial systems consulting. Key Competencies - Deep finance domain knowledge paired with analytics fluency. - Execution-focused with strong delivery discipline. - Clear and effective communicator across technical and finance audiences. - Collaborative approach to working within a product team structure. - Data-driven decision making with outcomes focus. - Champion mindset for self-service analytics and data literacy. - Adaptability in environments where ERP and analytics responsibilities intersect.
