Job Description

Head of Software Engineering

Broco

Role Description We're hiring a Head of Engineering to build and lead the technical function across all three markets. The role reports directly to the CEO and sits on the leadership team. - Build and lead Broco's engineering function across Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and our growing remote presence across MENA. - Hire and develop the team — from the founding crew (Lead Payments, Backend, Native iOS/Android) to 20-35 engineers over 24 months. - Own the core financial systems Broco runs on: - double-entry ledger - reconciliation engine - idempotent payment flows - immutable audit trail - cross-border settlement - fiat/crypto bridging - Architect a highly concurrent multi-sided marketplace handling real-time commission splits, multi-currency flows, and high-volume transactions securely. - Operate within our starting stack (native iOS + Android with KMM, NestJS + TypeScript, PostgreSQL, AWS, modular monolith) — defended but not dogmatic. - Set the engineering culture that holds as the team scales across countries: code review, documentation, async-first, English-only in code and docs. - Partner with Risk & Compliance, Operations, and our banking partners on technical implementation of AML, KYC, sanctions screening, and regulatory controls. - Represent engineering in investor due diligence and technical reviews with banking partners. Qualifications - 7+ years of software engineering experience, including significant technical leadership — Head of Engineering, VP Engineering, Engineering Manager, Lead Architect, or Staff/Principal Engineer ready to step into leadership. - Strong background in fintech, payments, banking, marketplaces, or high-volume transactional systems. - Hands-on experience with ledger architecture, reconciliation, idempotency, or settlement systems. - Track record recruiting, mentoring, and managing high-performing engineering teams. - Comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments where you set the roadmap. - Pragmatic and opinionated: you defend technical choices with arguments, not preferences. - Strong grasp of the complexities of bridging robust backend ledgers with multiple native mobile interfaces operating in diverse network conditions. - Excellent communication in English; French is a strong plus given our operational market and team. - Experience in a rapidly growing company in the fintech, mobility, or on-demand space is a strong plus. Benefits - 🚀 Perfect timing to join a highly ambitious startup and build a foundational financial infrastructure from scratch. - 🤝 Have a lasting impact on our company’s culture and engineering standards. - 📈 Extremely steep learning curve with high ownership, autonomy, and direct collaboration with the founders. - 🎯 Clear path to VP Engineering or CTO based on what you build. - 💰 Highly competitive compensation package, including a significant stock options package.
