• Balance engineering leadership and people management with hands-on technical engagement, maintaining sufficient depth in the codebase and platform architecture to guide technical strategy, influence architectural decisions, and mentor engineers. • Bring forward creative technical solutions to handle complex frontend platform challenges by collaborating with product engineering, design, marketing, and other stakeholders. • Stay close enough to the code to guide architectural decisions, review mobile platform work, and provide technical direction across React Native, iOS, Android, and our CI/CD and developer tooling stack. • Hire, lead, mentor, and motivate talented engineers and help them grow professionally. • Collaborate with business and engineering stakeholders to come up with the roadmap, vision, and purpose for the mobile platform. • Facilitate and contribute to conversations with Lead and Staff Engineers to come up with scalable mobile architecture, better engineering practices, and prioritize tech debt. • Communicate the purpose and "why" behind the current and future priorities to the squad and stakeholders. • Remove roadblocks for team members, both technical and otherwise. • Be the bridge between the squad and the rest of the engineering org and leadership by making sure that information flows both ways. • Be a spokesperson and champion for changes initiated by peers, managers, and leadership. • Co-own and measure metrics to enable data-driven decision-making around platform health and developer experience (educated prioritization of tech debt, tooling investments, and developer productivity) in collaboration with engineering stakeholders. And take the lead on solutions to improve when needed. • Work closely with peer Engineering Managers and their teams to prioritize and balance platform investments with squad-specific feature needs. • Establish processes that improve the mobile design-to-development workflow, partnering closely with design and product to ensure seamless collaboration on shared UI patterns and components.
Job Requirements
- 6+ years of software development experience.
- 1.5+ years of engineering management experience.
- Hands-on experience with mobile or front-end development to guide architectural decisions, review mobile platform work, and evaluate tradeoffs in upgrade paths and shared library design.
- Hands-on technical depth in mobile development, React Native, iOS (Swift), and/or Android (Kotlin). Sufficient to guide architectural decisions, review mobile platform work, and evaluate tradeoffs in upgrade paths and shared library design.
- Experience building and maintaining developer infrastructure: CI/CD pipelines, mobile build tooling, and platform upgrade programs.
- Familiarity with mobile observability and monitoring tools (e.g., crash reporting, session replay, performance tracing) and the ability to drive adoption of these tools across engineering teams.
- Familiarity with mobile release process and app store regulatory requirements.
- Experience with product analytics and experimentation platforms, with an understanding of how external vendor infrastructure supports product velocity.
- Experience creating products or systems that are maintainable, with an appreciation for the compounding value of platform investments.
- Ability to collaborate well and come up with a technical vision for larger cross-squad infrastructure programs.
- Experience hiring and building diverse and inclusive high-performing teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to engage in technical and business discussions from both tactical and strategic viewpoints.
