Creative Director, Copy

Resident

• Lead and evolve the voice, tone, and messaging strategy across Ashley and its portfolio of brands • Build and oversee a centralized copy organization that supports marketing, ecommerce, retail, PR, internal communications, social, and brand storytelling initiatives • Ensure consistency, clarity, and quality across all written communication and customer touchpoints • Develop and maintain copy standards, voice guidelines, messaging frameworks, and editorial systems • Partner closely with Creative, Marketing, PR, Ecommerce, Merchandising, HR, and Executive Leadership teams to align messaging with broader business objectives • Help define how each brand expresses itself while maintaining cohesion within the larger organization • Oversee the development and approval of copy across campaigns, product launches, presentations, digital experiences, advertising, social media, email marketing, internal communications, and retail environments • Elevate storytelling across the organization through stronger narrative structure, emotional resonance, and customer-focused messaging • Bring an editorial mindset to content development, ensuring messaging feels modern, compelling, and strategically effective • Collaborate closely with Art Directors, Designers, and Creative Leadership to ensure copy and visual storytelling work seamlessly together • Guide messaging strategies that support both brand building and business performance goals • Lead the integration of AI-driven workflows across the copy and content organization • Identify opportunities to leverage AI tools, automation platforms, and emerging technologies to improve creative speed, scalability, consistency, and operational efficiency • Develop and implement AI-assisted systems for copy generation, content adaptation, localization, ideation, brand governance, and workflow optimization • Partner with cross-functional teams to explore the use of AI agents and intelligent creative systems within the broader marketing and content ecosystem • Establish best practices, governance standards, and quality control frameworks for AI-generated and AI-assisted content • Stay current on emerging trends in generative AI, creative tooling, automation, and content operations, helping position Ashley at the forefront of modern creative development • Inspire, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of copywriters, editors, content strategists, and emerging AI-enabled creative contributors • Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement • Establish scalable workflows, approval processes, editorial systems, and AI-integrated operational frameworks across the organization • Balance quality standards with speed and operational efficiency in a fast-paced environment • Help unify dispersed copy resources into a more connected, collaborative, and strategically aligned team structure • Manage multiple priorities and stakeholders while maintaining strong organization and communication

Job Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional copywriting experience, including significant time in creative leadership roles
  • A Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field
  • Proven track record leading high-performing copy or editorial teams within retail, consumer, lifestyle, agency, or multi-brand environments
  • Compelling portfolio that demonstrates mastery across campaign storytelling, brand voice development, editorial writing, and multi-channel communications
  • Experience architecting messaging systems and managing complex stakeholder relationships across matrixed organizations
  • Demonstrated success implementing AI-assisted creative workflows, content automation, or copy operations initiatives — strongly preferred
  • Experience with Rytr, preferred
