About the Role: As a Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) at Planet, you will drive Planet’s largest, complex efforts that cross many teams and organizational boundaries. You will focus on execution of programs through the product life cycle. You will work closely with team leads to develop and manage end to end program plans. This includes establishing and managing internal processes, schedules, metrics, risks, and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You will work with cross-functional teams, both technical and non-technical. This role is focused on Infrastructure and Operations, including compute and storage infrastructure, org-wide technology migrations, and compliance to regulatory standards. This role will regularly partner with Infrastructure leadership and engage stakeholders in Software Engineering, Product, Security, and Corporate Engineering. The ideal candidate is excited by the opportunity to foster the long-term maturity of the technical foundation that powers Planet’s products and services. This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States. If located near an office, you are expected to work from that office 3 days per week. Impact You'll Own: Manage internal technology releases and migrations, focusing on Planet’s high-scale infrastructure systems. Scope and manage program schedules and break those into incremental milestones. Facilitate development of product requirements with software teams. What You Bring: 6+ years of software development or program management experience in the areas of platform engineering or cloud-based infrastructure. Experience leading cross-functional projects and migrations across a broad organization. Experience partnering with engineers to develop and execute change management plans. Experience with the product life cycle: concept through development, launch, deprecation, and end-of-life. Analytical, problem-solving, and creative thinking skills paired with the ability to communicate findings and recommendations. Equally comfortable explaining your analyses and recommendations to business leaders as you are discussing technical trade-offs with engineers. Ability to balance the tactical day-to-day with forward-looking improvements to scale operational efficiencies. What Makes You Stand Out: Experience with high-scale compute and storage infrastructure in public clouds, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Experience with managing an organization’s alignment to ISO 27001, 9001, or 42001 standards. Experience with remote sensing, earth observation data, or geospatial systems. Experience working with remote, worldwide teams.
