Payroll Administrator

Stride, Inc.

• Responsible for managing the payroll process from start to finish. • Reviewing and auditing timekeeping records to ensure compliance with established standards. • Handling tax notices, managing state and local registrations. • Processing tax adjustments, supporting year-end activities, and participating in other projects as assigned. • Responsible for the independent end-to-end preparation and processing of exempt/non-exempt (biweekly) multi-state payroll using Workday and OSV. • Reconcile payroll from period to period. • Calculate and review prorated wages and deductions when necessary (e.g., new hires, terminations, status changes). • Ensure tax and payroll deduction withholdings are accurate, including understanding of reciprocity rules. • Possess a solid understanding of Workday retros and their processing. • Maintain payroll records in compliance with SOX. • Troubleshoot and resolve payroll-related issues including tax adjustments for prior pay periods and years with minimal direction and supervision. • Consistently demonstrate customer service best practices by promptly addressing all employee inquiries, including tax and W-2 related questions—through the ticketing system, while ensuring compliance with SLA guidelines by resolving tickets within 24 to 48 hours. • Stay current on payroll and benefits legislation to ensure organizational compliance. • Independently manage all types of tax notices in collaboration with OSV, ensuring timely handling of notices, state and local registrations without delays. • Exhibit basic understanding of local tax requirements and termination laws across various states. • Assist with ad hoc management requests/projects (as requested) including but limited to year-end and W-2 as needed.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma AND
  • Five (5) years of payroll experience INCLUDING
  • Three (3) years of Workday payroll experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to clear required background check
  • Familiarity with payroll processes, policies, and best practices.
  • Experience in using ticketing systems (e.g., Fresh service, Zendesk).
  • Proven ability to prioritize and re-prioritize effectively as business needs evolve.
  • Experience collaborating with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Problem-solving and judgment skills, with strong attention to detail.

We are seeking a Senior Payroll Accountant to own the end-to-end U.S. and Canada payroll lifecycle with a heavy focus on financial accuracy and process excellence. We want to hear from you if you have: - Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is strongly preferred. - Experience: 7+ years of progressive experience in U.S. payroll with a focus on payroll accounting and multi-state compliance. - Technical Mastery: Extensive hands-on experience with payroll enterprise platforms (e.g. ADP Workforce Now, TriNet) (required) and modern HRIS platforms (e.g., Bob). - ERP & Financial Systems Expertise: Strong experience working with ERP/accounting systems is required, preferably NetSuite, including payroll-to-GL reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting support. - Accounting Fluency: Deep understanding of journal entries, labor allocations, and balance sheet reconciliations. NetSuite knowledge Required. - Communication: Exceptional "soft skills" with a proven track record of being cooperative and helpful in a high-growth, fast-paced environment. Job Responsibilities What you'll be doing: Execution & Accounting Integration - Full-Cycle Ownership: Drive the execution of end-to-end U.S. and Canada payroll processing for a multi-state and multinational workforce - GL Mapping & Reconciliation: Own the payroll-to-General Ledger (GL) mapping process. Perform monthly reconciliations of payroll accounts, including taxes, benefits, and 401(k) contributions. - Month-End Close: Partner with the Finance team to manage payroll accruals, reclassifications, and journal entries to ensure a seamless month-end and year-end close. - Tax & Agency Management: Act as the lead for all state agency registrations, notices, and audits, ensuring the company remains in good standing across all jurisdictions. - Equity Payroll Administration: Process and oversee payroll implications related to RSUs, stock option exercises, equity vesting events, and supplemental wage taxation in partnership with Finance and Equity teams. Controls & Scalability - Control Framework: Establish and maintain "best-in-class" internal controls and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to mitigate risk and ensure 100% data integrity. - Process Architecture: Evaluate current workflows to identify bottlenecks; design and implement automated, scalable solutions that can support rapid organizational growth. - Audit Readiness: Serve as the primary lead for payroll-related financial audits (Workers Comp, 401k, Year-end), providing organized documentation and clear narratives for all payroll-related accounting implications.
