Job Description

Senior Analyst, Quantitative Research

Wealthsimple

• Own and advance our quantitative research agenda — design, build, and validate portfolio optimization models, factor frameworks, and risk analytics that directly shape how we construct and manage client portfolios. • Drive portfolio optimization research — explore mean-variance, risk-parity, and other optimization frameworks, with a focus on practical implementation at scale for a large retail client base. • Translate research into production — work closely with Engineering to operationalize models and ensure research findings move from prototype to live portfolio impact. • Partner cross-functionally — collaborate with Product, Marketing, and Engineering teams on Wealthsimple's highest-priority investment initiatives, communicating complex quantitative concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders. • Monitor and improve model performance — establish backtesting standards, track live model outcomes, and iterate based on empirical results. • Understand utilized risk models — including factor-based risk decomposition, tail risk analysis, and stress testing across asset classes — to ensure our portfolios behave as intended across a range of market environments. • Stay current — engage with academic literature and industry developments in quantitative finance to keep our research at the leading edge.

Job Requirements

  • Quantitatively rigorous — you have a strong foundation in statistics, linear algebra, and optimization, and you're comfortable applying these to real financial problems.
  • Hands-on with data — you're proficient in Python (pandas, NumPy, statsmodels, or similar) and have experience working with financial time series data.
  • Financially literate — you understand how asset allocation, factor investing, and portfolio construction work in practice, not just in theory.
  • A clear communicator — you can translate model outputs and analytical findings into plain language that informs decisions across the business.
  • A rigorous thinker — you approach problems skeptically, stress-test your own assumptions, and know the limits of your models.
  • Collaborative and humble — you value making your teammates better and are as eager to learn as you are to contribute.
  • Self-directed — you take ownership of your work, manage complexity well, and ship.
  • Nice to haves: Experience with portfolio construction or risk systems in a wealth management, asset management, or fintech context. Familiarity with Canadian market structure, regulations, or retail investment products. Exposure to optimization libraries or risk platforms.

Benefits

  • Top-tier health benefits and life insurance
  • Long-term group savings with employer match, through Wealthsimple for Business
  • 20 vacation days, 4 wellness days, and unlimited sick and mental health days per year
  • 90 days away: work outside Canada for up to 90 days per year
  • Employee resource groups, including Rainbow (2SLGBTQ), Women of WS, and Black at WS
